Mrs. Louise Peuker nee Schlig Dies at Meriden

Mrs. Louise Schlig Peuker, 79, widow of the late Karl Peuker, former Atchison County farmer, died early Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Thomas, near Meriden, Kansas, where Mrs. Peuker had been making her home of the last three years. Mrs Peuker had been in failing health for a number of years.

Mrs. Peuker was born in Weisdorf, Germany, January 31, 1851. In 1872 she came to America with a number of friends and located in St. Joseph, Mo., where she married Karl Peuker June 15, 1874. They moved to a farm in Doniphan County, and after living there for three years settled in an Atchison County farm, seven miles north of town.

Mr. Peuker died there March 12, 1906, and his widow remained on the farm until 1927, when she went to live with Mrs. Thomas near Meriden.

Mrs. Peuker was a splendid pioneer woman. She was a helpful wife, a loving mother and a kind and willing neighbor.

She is survived by one son, Earnest Peuker, Atchison; Mrs. Warren Caraway, St. Joseph, Mo.; and Mrs. William Thomas, Meriden, Kans.; and one sister Mrs. Caroline Handke, one great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be at 2:15 o'clock tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon from the Trinity Lutheran Church with the pastor, Rev. F.W. C. Jesse officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. The body is at the Stanton Funeral Home.
