William F. Kuhnert Dies

William F. Kuhnert, 79, retired Atchison county farmer, died at 12:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 810 North Ninth Street. He had been bedfast for 10 months with infirmities due to advanced age. Mrs. Kuhert had spent all but a few months of his life in Atchison and vicinity.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon from Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. F.W.C. Jesse officiating. There will be a brief service at the residence at 2:15 o'clock. The body will be removed from the Stanton & Stanton Mortuary to the Kuhnert home at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Six grandchildren will act as pallbearers.

Mr. Kuhnert was born in Germany, March 19, 1860, and came to America with his parents, William and Anna Carolina Kuhnert when only 11 weeks old. The family settled on a farm five miles north of Atchison and William F. Kuhnert was reared there. June 2, 1885, he was united in marriage to Pauline Handke, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gottieb Handke of the Independence Creek Community. Twelve children were born to the union, all of whom are living.

The couple lived on the farms north of Atchison until 20 years ago when Mr. Kuhnert retired. Then they moved to Atchison.

Mr. Kuhnert was an industrious capable farmer and a stable citizen who had many friends. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church here.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. His twin sister, Mrs. Frank Young of Atchison, died two years ago.

Surviving are his wife: 12 children, William Kuhnert, Merced, Calif., Mrs. Arthur Larson, Los Angeles, Calif., Julius Kuhnert, Roy Kuhnert and Mrs. S. D. Berry, all of Rushville, Mrs. Harold Chew of the home, Paul Kuhnert and Henry Kuhnert, north of Atchison, Herman Kuhnert and Mrs Ernest Schols, both of Doniphan, Howard Kuhnert, Cummings, and Mrs. Ray Flynn, Nortonville; 36 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
