He was picked up by the train men and taken to the Missouri Pacific freight office, where he lingered until 1 o¹clock when he expired. His right arm was found to be badly broken and the right side of his head badly mashed. At the time he was struck he had turned into the track to walk towards the union depot. The danger signals were given by the engineer and steam reversed, but to no effect. The old man, who was nearly entirely deaf, heard it not, and the engine was too close to him to be stopped in time to avert the sad calamity.

He has in his old age had a penchant to be

When the train reached the east side of the Tenth street crossing, Engineer Finaucano saw Lee walking south across the tracks on the west side of the street. He was badly bent with age, and was seemingly unaware of the approach of the train. Finaucano blew the whistle, but Lee did not hear it, and walked straight ahead. The train could not be stopped, and Lee was caught and thrown to the side of the track. He fell upon a projecting tie, and it was evident that he had been mortally wounded. The train was
