Friday, 26 Feb 1886 T. B. Platt, teller at the Atchison Savings bank, died at 8 o¹clock this morning, of paralysis, aged 51 years. Rev. J. B. Mulford will conduct funeral services at his late residence, corner Tenth and Atchison streets, on Sunday afternoon, at 2 o¹clock. The Ancient Order of United Workmen, of which deceased was a member, will have general charge of the interment, which will take place at Mount Vernon cemetery. The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers: Stanton Park, H. H. Bayley, C. C. Burnes, Frank Howard, J. C. Fox, J. I. Taylor. |

Mrs. Dora L. Platt, whose serious illness has been the cause of much sincere regret, died at 7 o¹clock this morning, at her home, No. 1011 Atchison street. Mrs. Platt has been in failing health for over a year, and while at Detroit in August, she was operated upon for a tumor, which operation, it was hoped, would restore her to health. She rallied afterward and in a few weeks had recovered sufficiently to return to Atchison, but her recovery was not permanent, and, after returning home, was never able to leave her room, sinking gradually until the end came peacefully this morning. The deceased was the widow of T. B. Platt, who died ten years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Platt were among the early settlers of Atchison county, locating at Eden 32 years ago. In a few years they removed to Atchison, and Mr. Platt was a messenger between Atchison and Denver on the old overland express. They came to Kansas from Syracuse, New York. Two daughters, Miss Kate Platt and Miss Josie Platt, survive them. The funeral will occur from the residence at 3 p.m. on Monday.
Augustus R. Platt, for nearly a quarter of a century an Atchison insurance agent, died at 4:30
o clock yesterday afternoon at his home at Sixth & Atchison Streets. He had been a sufferer with
rheumatism for years which primarily the cause of his death. Mr. Platt was at his office last ten
days ago, and was able to be up and about the house until last Wednesday, when his condition
assumed a more serious turn. His son, Charles T. Platt of Omaha, was summoned and arrived
Thursday. On Friday, the patient lapsed into a stuper and had been unconscious forty-eight hours
at the time of his death. Last summer he suffered as light stroke of paralysis, but there was no
recurrence of it; his physical condition was simply undermined by his long, suffering with
rheumatism. Mrs. Platt was born in Onondago county, New York, June 2, 1843, and came to
Atchison from Syracuse in 1868. After remaining here a few weeks he went to Hiawatha where he
held the positions of assistant county clerk, country clerk and register of deeds. In 1874 he
returned to Atchison and was assistant postmaster under Ben Gale. Later on he was associated
with the United States and Adams Express companies, which had a joint agency here at that time.
In 1881 he entered the employ of Julius Kuhn, wholesaler grocer, as head bookkeeper and
cashier, and went into the insurance business when Mr. Kuhn quit business. He was a thorough accountant and was always highly esteemed as a citizen. He was married to February 22, 1865 at
Syracuse to Miss Orpha Jones, who survives him. Thad Platt, a brother died 21 years ago, and a
sister, Mrs. Wymore died at Wichita a month a go. Charles T. Platt is an only child. The deceased
was a member of A.O.U.W., the Maccabees and the Select Knights. The funeral will occur at 2
p.m. to-morrow. The services will be conducted by the Rev. F. S. White and the burial will be in Mt. Vernon cemetery.

Miss Kate Platt Dies
Funeral Thursday Morning
Daughter of Pioneer Couple
Miss Kate Platt, 78, died at 5:45 o clock last evening after being bedfast five weeks with high
blood pressure and hear complications. She had lived with her sister, Mrs. S. E. Harburger and
Mrs. Harburger for 44 years and her death occurred at the Harburger home 321 North Eleventh Street.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at the Sawin & Douglass chapel by Dr. C. A. Hawley.
Interment will be in the family lot at Mt. Vernon. The body will be at the mortuary until the
funeral time.
The daughter of Atchison county pioneers, Thaddeus B. Platt and Dora Lee Platt. Miss Kate was born in the Old Eden Community December 6, 1864. She was four years old when the family moved to Atchison and established its home at Tenth and Atchison Street.
When Mr. and Mrs. Harburger went to Kansas City to live 27 years ago, Miss Platt accompanied them. They returned here to make their home last September 1.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church. Miss Platt had many friends. She was a splendid
woman with many admirable and fine qualities.
Mrs. Harburger is the only immediate survivor. A nephew, Platt Harburger of Houston, Tex and a
cousin Charles T. Platt of Omaha, will arrive this evening to attend the funeral.

The funeral of Miss Kate Platt, 321 North Eleventh, was held this morning from the Sawin & Douglas
chapel. Dr. C. A. Hawley in charge. Interment was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. The pallbearers were
Howard Lockwood, George Wolfe, E. C. Hazel, Jr. and Dick Drury.
