Charles Henry Bether, 1890 - 1971
     Frieda Marie Hensiek, 1900
     
          Frieda Marie Hansiek was born February 16, 1900, to Katherine and Wm.
     Hensiek at Blackburn, Missouri. She went to school in Blackburn for two
     years and came to Nashville with her parents in March 1909 and experienced
     her first dust storm.
          At that time the church was located one block west of the Presbyterian
     Church southeast corner of the next block. Church services were conducted
     there on Sundays and school classes were taught there during the week by
     Rev. Bussie. Later the church was moved south of town and Frieda went to
     school there and was confirmed in 1914 byt he Rev. Schlesselman, who also
     taught school during the week.
          Charles H. Bether was born Dec. 22, 1890, to Emelia and John Bether at
     Lincolnville, Kansas. He was baptized and confirmed there. We were both
     members of St. John and got acquainted there. the first time I noticed him
     was at mission festival when he gave me a sweet smile. After he spent two
     years in the service of our country, we were married June 20, 1920, by the
     Rev. Dueker and started in our little home in Nashville.
          Two children were born: Doris Verniece and Charles J.
          Doris Verniece was born October 18, 1924. She was baptized and
     confirmed by the Rev. Krause. She married John Adams and they have three
     children: Johnny, Mark and Beth.
          Charles J. was born October 31, 1928. He was baptized by the Rev. Krause
     and confirmed by the Rev. Hornbastel in Arkansas City, Kansas. He married
     Lucille Martin and they have two children: Jeff and Susan.
          After Charles H. started to work for the Santa Fe Railroad, we lived
     thirteen years in Nashville, seven years in Sitka, Kansas, and fifty-two
     years in South Haven, Kansas, which is still home.
          Charles died August 28, 1971, and was buried in St. John's cemetery,
     Nashville, Kansas.
