Bernice (Bale) Gibson Taylor

Bernice Gibson Taylor, 79, died August 1, 1999, at Kidron Bethel Health Care Center, Newton.

She was born July 23, 1920, at Clay Center, the daughter of George W. and Grace (Walker) Bale. A Medicine Lodge resident since 1954, coming from Isabel, she was a junior high school teacher, retiring in 1990.

She belonged to the United Methodist Church, was a life member of Lorraine Chapter No. 39 of the Order of Eastern Star and the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and was a member of Chapter Nu Epsilon of Beta Sigma Phi. In 1996, she received her 50 year pin in the OES and had been a Worthy Matron at Isabel OES in 1958.

On February 10, 1945, she married Clyde L. Gibson. He died in July 1972. On March 2, 1974, she married Oscar Taylor. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Thomas L. Gibson, Newton; a stepson, Jerry Taylor, Lubbock, Texas; four step-daughters, Barbara Harbaugh, Sharon, Joan Myers, Mountainview, California, Sue Gates, San Juan Capistrano, California, and Gloria Myers, Redding, California; a brother, Dr. George W. Bale, Germantown, Tennessee; two grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Reverend Jim Godbey presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Memorials may be sent to the church, to USD 254 or the Medicine Lodge Golf Club, all in care of Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge.
