Funeral services for Glen LeRoy Hogard, 56, of Sun City, were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Forsyth Funeral Home. Burial was in the Sun City Cemetery.Born Jan. 22, 1917 at Coats, he died Friday, March 9, at the Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He married Mildred Ward Oct. 14, 1940, at Anthony. He was an employee of the National Gypsum Company and had lived in the Sun City area most of his life.
A veteran of World War II, he was a member of VFW Post 7625.
He is survived by his widow, of the home; daughter, Mrs. Annie Ewing, Coats; mother, Mrs. Blanche Hogard, Pratt; brother, Ray, Attica; sister, Mrs. Walter Von Schrlitz, Fremont, Neb.

by "Midge" HogardGlen LeRoy Hogard, youngest son of C.D. Hogard and Blanche V. "Lilly" Hogard, was born January 22, 1917, near Coats, Kansas. He has a sister, Verle (Walter) Von Schriltz of Freemont, Nebraska, and a brother, Ray, of Coats. He attended school in Coats.
I was born September 30, 1919, just northwest of Sun City on my grand dad and grandmother's, W.C. and Sarah Moad, farm. My parents were Montie Homer and Minnie Mae (Moad) Ward. I attended the Sun City schools, graduating from high school in 1937. That same year, I was crowned the Barber County Beauty Queen at Hardtner. After graduation I helped my parents in the grocery store.
Glen and I were married in Anthony, Kansas, October 14, 1940, and lived on the Hogard Ranch eight miles west of Coats until he went to WWII in October, 1942. He took his basic training at Cheyenne, Wyoming, attended motor school at Omaha, Nebraska, and was stationed at Camp Shenango, Penn. I lived near the camps and worked until he was sent overseas. He was attached to the 17th Cml. Maintenance Company and saw service in France and Germany, receiving several decorations and citations, namely WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, and the Bronze Star.
After Glen's discharge in January, 1946, we made Sun City our home. In February Glen went to work for National Gypsum Company at the mine where he was employed until his death March 9, 1973. He also farmed and had a small cow herd.
Glen served on the city council and township board several years. We were both members of the PTA. I served in each of the offices. I was a Sagebrush 4-H community leader, city treasurer, and have been a member of the Sun City EHU for 32 years, having served in all offices.
Our daughter, Helen Ann "Annie", was born February 26, 1947. She attended Sun City schools graduating from high school in 1965. She married Gary Kent Ewing of Hardtner September 10, 1969. They live on the Hogard Ranch near Coats. Annie and Gary have a son, Jimmie Glen, born December 30, 1974.
