Hugh R. "Punk" Cox

Hugh R. "Punk" Cox, 84, died Feb 8, 1997, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Kiowa.

He was born Aug. 30, 1912, at Sharon, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Garner) Cox. A lifetime resident of Barber County, he was a rural mail carrier.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Kiowa, past president of the Barber County School Board, and was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 278, Midian Shrine, and the Wichita Consistory.

On July 31, 1933, he married Doris Newkirk at Cherokee, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include; a son, Larry Cox, Texas City, Texas; a daughter, Jerry Roy, Bryan, Texas; a brother Maurice Cox, Wichita; a sister, Opal Henderson, Wichita; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb 9, 1997, at the United Methodist Church in Kiowa, with the Rev. Bill Dyar presiding. Cremation will follow the service.

Memorials may be sent to the South Barber Scholarship Fund, in care of Fisher Funeral Home, Kiowa.
