DEATH OF Reverend Jesse W. WADE

News came to this community Sunday evening of the death of Rev. J. W. Wade of Sun City. Rev. and Mrs. Wade are former residents of Wilmore and have a number of close friends here who extend sympathy to the bereaved wife and family. Rev. Wade has been in failing health for some time. His dear wife and two daughters, Mrs. Sam Fausett and Mrs. Truman York were at his bed side when death came.

Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church in Sun City Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Cecil Klotfelter, pastor of the Coats church in charge and Rev. C. K. Byerley, pastor of the Medicine Lodge church assisting. A mixed quartet sang three songs, "Abide With Me," "No Disappointment in Heaven," and "Does Jesus Care."

Interment was in the Wilmore cemetery with W. R. Forsyth and Son mortuary of Medicine Lodge in charge.

Obituary

Jessie W. Wade was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, on June 12, 1885, and departed this life in Sun City, Kan., on July 12, 1936 at the age of 71 years and 1 month.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Anna, who was by his side until the last, one son, Bernice W. Wade of Fargo, North Dakota, three daughters, Mrs. Sam Fausett of Wichita, Mrs. Luther Wells of Glasgow, Kentucky and Mrs. Truman York of Sitka, Kans. He also leaves eight grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Lucy McCoy of Glasgow, Kentucky, Mrs. Sellie Synder of Texas and Mrs. Dosia Pedigro of Glasgow, Scotland.

Rev. Wade has been active in the service of the Lord for nearly a half century and served churches in Kentucky, Texas and Kansas. He leaves a multitude of friends scattered over these and other states.

Preceding him in death are his father and mother, two sisters, one son, Alfred and two grandchildren. Probably the greatest sorrow that ever came into his life was the loss of Alfred some three years ago.

On January 1, 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Maxey of Tompkinville, Kentucky. To them were born five children already named. God allowed them to walk life's pathway together through almost half a century. They have reared the family and labored together in the service of the Lord.

At the age of 24 he gave his heart to the Lord and was saved. It was only a short time afterward that he surrendered to the call of His Lord to preach the gospel. The church recognizing his calling and fitness for the work ordained him to the full work of the Gospel ministry. He served as pastor and as evangelist where so ever the Lord called him for the past 47 years of his life never laying his armor down until his promotion came last Sunday evening. In 1912 he came to Kansas where he moved his family a short time later. He has preached here with the exception of six years spent in Texas since that time.

During his active ministry he baptized into the fellowship of the baptist church 1,990 believers, a record attained or surpassed by very few preachers. He longed for the privilege of baptizing the other ten but they did not come.

Rev. Wade kept accurate records of his work as a preacher, but on March 10, 1934 their home burned and he lost those prized records. He has married hundreds of couples only one of which ever separated that he had knowledge of. He has preached many funerals for both old and young, for saved and unsaved. He has comforted the sorrowing on many occasions with promises found in God's book.

He had served in various capacities on numerous ordination councils for both preachers and deacons. He has also served in various ways even to moderator in Associations where he has worked. On one occasion he preached the annual sermon for his home association in Kentucky where the audience numbered 3,000.

Rev. Wade came to Sun City two years ago as pastor of the Baptist church where he lived at the time of his death.

Grief over the death of his son Alfred, the loss of his home by fire, two severe spells of sickness and increasing age offer human reasons for this passing but the real reason was with God, who saw fit to promote him to those mansions our Lord has gone to prepare for those who loved him.
