Marguerite Ellen (Bevans) Saddler Nurse

Marguerite Ellen (Bevans) Nurse, 87, died Monday, December 4, 2006 at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt.

She was born June 2, 1919 in Moore township south of Gerlane, Kansas, the daughter of Charles F. and Hazel Blanche (Lyman) Bevans.

She attended country school 1/4 mile from her home for the first eight years. In 1935 her "near-brother" Cecil Bayliffe joined her family. She graduated from Kiowa High School on May 20, 1937, and attended Southwestern College in Winfield.

A longtime resident of Medicine Lodge, she was a telephone operator and taught school for two years at Mound Center School, west of her home. During WWII, she worked at the Ration Board of Medicine Lodge.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, both in Medicine Lodge.

On May 19, 1947 she married Arthur W. Saddler. He died June 28, 1957. On February 22, 1959 she married Jack David Nurse at Medicine Lodge. He died August 18, 2004.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews; four sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Slover, Carol Sue Vester, Margaret Nurse and Betty Jane DeMint and many "adopted" kids.

Funeral service was held on Thursday, December 7, at the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge with Pastor Frank DeFisher officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
