Mildred Anna "Millie" (Vannaman) Turner

Mildred Anna "Millie" (Vannaman) Turner, 86, died November 5, 1999, at Kiowa Hospital District Manor, Kiowa.

She was born June 8, 1913, in rural Kiowa, the daughter of Bertie R. and Hazel Pearl (Stephens) Vannaman. She attended Mound Center Country School and graduated from Kiowa High School in 1932. A Kiowa resident, formerly of Capron, Oklahoma, she was a homemaker and a school cook at Capron for 20 years until the school closed in 1976.

She then served as a caregiver for several senior citizens in Kiowa, Medicine Lodge, Cherokee and Alva, Oklahoma.

She attended the Senior Citizens of Alva, where she sang with the Songbirds.

On May 14, 1935, she married John Otto Turner at Alva. He died April 19, 1956.

Survivors include: two sons John Dee, LaVernia, Texas, and Lonnie Ray, Yukon, Oklahoma; a daughter, Rosalyn Joy Gray, Capron; a brother, Cecil Vannaman, Kiowa; a sister, Myrtle Schwanz, Gresham, Oregon; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Vannaman; two sisters, Arlene Ruth Gillig and Velma Ellen Pro; and two twin great-grandsons.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 9, 1999, at Kiowa United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jan McDaniel presiding. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa.
