Thelma M. (Cain) Compton

Thelma M. Compton, 93, died Monday January 14, 2008 at Lakewood Senior Living Center in Pratt, KS. She was born February 3, 1914 in Liberal, KS the daughter of the late Oscar and Mary (Howard) Cain. In 1934 she married Gilbert Compton in Hugoton, KS. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1968.

She lived in Lake City from 1936 until 1986 then moved to Medicine Lodge. She lived in Medicine Lodge until 2003 when she moved to Pratt. She was the Postmaster in Lake City , retiring in 1985. She graduated Valedictorian from Liberal High School in 1932. She was a member of the Lake City Methodist Church. She was also a member of YWCA of Lake City, Golden Agers of Medicine Lodge, and EHU.

She is survived by one daughter: Mary Lake and husband Rusty of Lake City, KS., three sons: Raymon and wife Vera Compton of Pratt, KS, Dalton and wife Melba of Wichita, KS, and Dick and Leora "Lefty" Compton of Hays, KS., seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son Lester D. Compton, and eight siblings, five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral Service was held Friday January 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home with Chaplain Fred Pinkerton presiding. Burial was held in Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, KS.
