You might want to get a microfilm copy of the Index to the 1865 State of Kansas Census. If you find the family in the index, it will tell you the county and township they lived in. Then you can get the microfilm for that township and get any information that is not included in the Index.

To ILL the microfilm of the index visit the home page of the Kansas State Historical Society at http://www.kshs.org, follow the link to "Research and Collections". Scroll down the page and follow the link to "Census". Don't forget to check out the link to their interlibrary loan policies.

Hope this helps

Does anyone know anything about this cemetary in Bourbon Co.? I've been told my gg-grandfather, William Samuel BALES, died in Jan. 1917 and is buried in this cemetary. I'd like to find out his actual date of death and if there is an obituary available. Any help would be welcome. Are there any published sources available for this cemetary?

Could this be the cemetary just east of Xenia it is on the highway going east toward Mapleton, Ks. on the South side of the road. the only other one that I know of around Xenia is just north called the Stevenson Cemetary. I hope this might help. I don't know who takes care of them but you can contact the County Clerk office in Ft. Scott, Ks. Bourbon Co. for info on who is the Sexton.
