Topic: Laughlin/Rice/Poole/Willoughby/Richie familes
From: Diane Berry ecpl@oregonvos.net
Date: Tuesday, August 21, 2001 10:55 PM

I am looking for any information on the Laughlin, Rice, Poole, Willoughby and Richie families from Coyville and New Albany. I found Jane and JM Laughlin on 1870 census. I presume these are parents of my ggg grandfaher James Edward Laughlin's parents as his mother was supposed to have been Joseph and Jane (Poole) Laughlin. JE married a Dora Rice and then Nancy Willoughby in 1900 in New Albany. Nancy was the mother of Alta Mae Richie who marred JE's son Charles Marvin Laughlin. They were also supposed to have married in 1900 in New Albany.
Both CM Laughlin and Alta were born in New Albany we believe. Nancy's parents were Hopkins and Malinda Rose Willoughby. Her husband was Isaac Thomas Richie listed in the WilsonCo. list of civil war vet in 1883, Coyville. JE & Nancy, Alta & Charles, Hopkins and Malinda and the Meyers came to Oregon after 1900. Jane Pool or Dora Rice or both may have been Native American, although Jane is listed as white on the census. Any information on these families or their ancestors would be appreciated

Betty,

Was your Ralph WEBB living as of the 1920 Census and do you know where?

If so, I would check with your local FHC for the World War 1 Draft
Registrations for the corresponding State and County he would have been in.
Reason being: This would give his birthdate, nearest relative, his adress,
where he was employed, physical description, and generally signed by him
(makes a nice momento too).

Topic: William Anderson Thurmond
From: Jeannie Vaneps rvaneps@lcp2.net
Date: Sunday, July 01, 2001 11:49 AM

Hi: I am trying to find the death date of my great grandfather, William Anderson Thurmond. He supposedly is buried in an unmarked grave in the Lath Branch Cemetery of Ft. Scott, Kansas. He and his family were in the 1880 census in Cedar County, Missouri and then in 1886 when their last child was born they were in St. Clair County, Missouri. However, in 1888, his wife, Elizabeth Evelyn (McCord) Thurmond was listed as a widow in the city directory of Ft Scott, Kansas of that year. What I am wondering is if there is a way I can find out whether or not he did, in fact, die in Ft Scott, Kansas and is there a way I could find out his date of death? Would there be any records in any of the churches in Ft Scott which were in existence between 1886 and 1888? He died sometime between 1886 and 1888. Is there anyone in Ft. Scott who would be willing to look this up for me? I think they were in a Christian Church of some kind, but I am not sure about that. Please email me at rvaneps@lcp2.net if there is anyone out there willing to look this up for me. Thank you. Jeannie Vaneps
