AUGUSTA GAZETTE, 4 June 1952
Obituary of BERTHA WALKER SPENCER
Mrs. Spencer Dies
Tuesday Afternoon

Augustans were saddened yesterday afternoon when the news was released that Mrs. Fred Spencer (Bertha) had died. Although in failing health, the news of her death came as a shock.

Mrs. Spencer was a woman devoted to her home. She was a homemaker and only recently moved with her husband into their new home on North State street. The home was a "dream house" her idea of what one should be. She enjoyed the last months of her life - before ill health in the past few weeks caused her much pain and discomfort. She will be missed greatly by a large group of friends and relatives.

Bertha Walker Spencer was born January 2, 1886, in Augusta, the daughter of Henry B. Walker and Mollie Carr Walker. Her marriage to Fred G. Spencer took place in Shawnee, Okla., April 20, 1910. She was a member of the Methodist church, Chapter AF of the P.E.O., Sisterhood and Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, a half-brother, Charley Walker of Augusta, an aunt, Mrs. Mattie Hanes, of Shawnee, Okla. and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Victor A. Major will conduct the services and burial will be made in the Elmwood mausoleum.

Active pallbears will be Cecil Varner, R.A. Cox, Noah Morris, O.R. Fowler, Lisle Carr, Charles Spencer, Guy B. Johnson and Harol D. Harrison. The honary pallbears are R.A. Haines, Dr. Harry Lutz, George Smith, W.D. Thomas, W.W. Cron, Dexter Congdon, Ralph Varner, ward Smith and Edward Safford.
