Obituary of W. A. "CURLY" DAVIS |
W.A. "Curly" Davis, 80, of Augusta, died
Tuesday morning, Feb. 28, 2000, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital after
a brief illness. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral
Home. Interment will follow in Towanda Cemetery. He was born Oct. 10, 1919 in Mulberry to Henry J. and Jessie (Thomas) Davis. He came to this area as a small child. He married Mary Ann Mallow in Dearborn, Mich on Aug. 10, 1944. She survives. During World War II he served in the 833rd Aviation Engineers Battalion, United States Army Air Corps. After 41 years as a field gauger, he retired from Pester Refinery in 1982. He was a past commander of the American Legion Captain Edgar Dale Post #81, a member of SPEBSQSA, Natural Statesman of Rogers, Ark. and the First United Methodist Church in Augusta where he sang in the choir. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Margie Herron of El Dorado and Nancy Boeselager of Lisle, Ill.; a son, David A. Davis of Wichita; five grandchildren, Greg Hedrick, Becky Hedrick, Michelle Johnston, Kelle Kelly and Andy Davis; one great-grandson, Zachary Kelly; and two brothers, Elmer W. Davis of El Dorado and Donald W. Davis of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother. A memorial has been established for the Augusta Public Library. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home. |
