     1898, Dec. 24 -- Died Saturday morning, Irene, youngest child of Mr. & Mrs. John McCabe, of Bazaar, Ks.


     Marriage license to Ernest Morris of Strong City and Indianola Anthony on the 29th.


     G. W. Fink is the newly elected Constable of Wonsevu.


     A great number in Clements are changing houses, some buying. There is a scarcity of houses to rent.


     Jan. 12 -- The Commissioners inspected the poor farm and found it in a satisfactory condition.


     Drs. Conaway and Hamme were awarded the contract for doctoring the poor of the county and performing the duties of health officer.


     Wedding of Miss Blanche Store and Mr. Frank Glanville held at Saffordville.


     Jan. 19 -- W. G. Patton one of the early settlers of Chase County died at Emporia.


     Mr. & Mrs F. A. Stuart have a new daughter several days old.


     John McNee has gone to Lawrence to attend school. He is studying law.


     Jan. 26 -- Strong City opera house has been dismantled of stage and scenery and turned into an office building.


     Feb. 2 -- Death of A. S. Bailey at Elmdale, Friday, January 27, 1899 of pneumonia.


     The Woolwine boys are going into the grocery and feed business in Saffordville.


     J. B. Hays aged about 80 died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs McCulloght at Strong City, Thursday Jan. 26.


     Levi Pinkston has his house enclosed, and gave a dance last Friday evening.


     March 2 -- The Holmes Boys band of Cottonwood Falls will give their second annual concert Tuesday evening March 14.


     0. H. Lewis of Matfield Green is preparing to move to the Homer Talkington farm near Cedar Point.


     March 23 -- Dave McKee has sold his ranch on Sharp's creek to John Lamprion of Nemaha County.


     March 30 -- Sol Varner has refitted the Commercial Hotel in this city,


     W. P. Rettiger is Mayor of Strong City and John Gates, Marshal.
