     The 4th of July was celebrated by this city and Strong in Rettiger's grove in good style.

     July 13 -- The poor farm was visited and found to be in good condition. The Union Hotel has been throughly cleaned from top to bottom, and painted inside and out, and is now for rent.

     Byron Crawford and Wm. LaCoss have purchased the pleasure steamer "Admiral Dewey." and have launched it on the mill-pond at Clements. But it did not prove a success for long.

     July 20 -- Marriage of J. C. Campbell and Mary Dawson at the home of the bride's parents.

     Levi Chandler of Bazaar announced his intentions for County Clerk, as did L. W. Heck for Sheriff.

     The street lamps are being planted.

     July 27 -- Ben Pierce has moved up Cedar, to work for Thos. Sayre and Mrs Pierce to take care of his children, and keep house for him.

     Born to Mr. & Mrs Charley Myers, a fine boy.

     The 101 Cattle Co. is building a large grain elevator at Hymer.

     Matt McDonald is the Chase County Probate Judge.

     August 3 -- For pure home made ice cream go to Replogle's drug store.

     Cal Pendergraft drives a new horse in his team now.

     The infant of Mr. & Mrs Shelva Goad was buried in the Wonsevu cemetery August 1st.

     August 10 -- Robert Holmes returned last Thursday from a month's visit in Michigan. A car load of furniture will arrive next week.

     Will McNee and two children are down with malarial fever.

     Bids will be received until noon August 21 for a school house in District #55.

     Anna Arnold will teach at Woodhull this year and the Sharp's creek teacher will be Glennie Hays.

     August 17 -- Many calves are dying from Blackleg. See E. D. Replogle for a preventive.

     Miss Cleo, daughter of A. M. Ice, had a bone and ligament broken in the forearm, by falling from a buggy.
