     Aug. 17, 1899 -- Married at the Central Hotel, this city, Chas. M. Erwin and Almena C. Hoffman both of Cedar Point.


     Aug. 24 -- W. B. Hilton has been appointed agent for the high school books.


     Mrs Thom. Mercer has been sick for about three months. She is convalescing very slowly.


     Mr. Joseph Arnold and Mrs Tabitha Harris of Cottonwood Falls are wed by Rev. Gresham. The groom age 75 and his bride is 73. They moved onto the bride's farm, near town.


     Essie Winters, age 22 years, 11 mo's and 1 day has died of consumption.


     Aug. 31 -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Austin, this city, a son.


     The residence of Chris. Garth's father, in Toledo township, was struck by lighting. Damage slight.


     Dick Ryan has sold his roan trotting mare "Sunbean" to Dave Cartter for $40.


     Wm. LaCross made final settlement as administrator of the estate of Jacob and Caroline Schimpff, deceased.


     A druggist permit was issued on the 28th to. E. J. Barnett, Strong City to sell intoxicating liquor.


     Claude Shaft was kicked on the leg by a horse, but not seriously injured.


     Mr. Wilkes has closed his meat shop.


     Sep. 7, 1899 -- Wally Wood is erecting a homesome new residence in Elmdale.


     Ticket #110 gets the china writing set a Smith Brothers and the party holding this number can have the same by calling at the store.


     Mrs Sarah Hunt, one of the pioneer settlers of Chase County passed away from this earth on September lst.


     Very hot and dry in the south part of Chase County. We need rain badly. The mecury registered 110 degrees on Tuesday evening at 5 PM.


     Geo. McNee has taken up his studies for the winter at Quincy, Ill.


     Sep. 14 -- Mrs J. H. Doolittle and son, Dudley, went to Lawrence Sunday, where Dudley will enter the State University.


     Prof. Shirk informs us there are eleven pupils in the Senior class of the high school this year.
