Oct. 19 --A plucky set-to occurred at the Bazaar Stockyards with a fist fight between
Evander Bocook of Matfield and Sam Stotler, over ownership of a steer.
The "race problem" has been satisfactorily settled at Elmdale by the colored
girl withdrawing from the school.
Births at Clements - Mr. & Mrs Perry Mathews, a son, Mr. & Mrs Thomas Crawford
a son and Mr. & Mrs Richard Patton, a daughter.
Hattie M. Higbee, Millinery at Cottonwood Falls has a fine line of trimmed
hats, patterns, shapes and street hats on hand.
Oct. 26, 1899 -- Charles Sayre is making a splendid canvass for sheriff.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dawson are the parents of a son.
Dr. Samuel Steele candidate for cornerer, Henry Rogler for surveyor, L. L.
Chandler for County Clerk.
Nov. 2, 1899 -- Johnson and Alford have got a hansome new delivery wagon.
County Attorney McWilliams is out in the county with a notary public securing
evidence to oppose sending the Brandly case to Emporia.
Lad, the third oldest son of Ben Arnold, was shot through the lung last
Sunday afternoon by the accidental discharge of a 32 calibre revolver in tbe hands of Sam, his next oldest brother. The wound is very serious but not
necessarily fatal.
Nov. 9 -- The Woodmen of Matfield has a supper in their hall in honor of Rev. Mr. Pool,
The United Brethren Minister, who leaves for Oklahoma.
Robert Clements has paid his subscription to the Leader, in advance, every
election day for twenty years.
The people of Toledo township gave John Crook, of the 20th Kansas a splendid
reception at Saffordville, Monday night.
Chas. Deering, Sr. is rushing the work on his new residence. He has the
stone work done.

Grandma Barker, Mother of Mrs S. F. Jones of Strong City, Died, age 88.
Nov. 16 -- Chris Zimmerman has been employed as night watchman by the business men of
Strong City.
The brick residence of Mrs Crawford, near Clements, caught fire and was
completely destroyed.
Certificates to purchase school land were issued by the probate court last week to Thos. Resneder and Teresa Hull.
