     1907

     Mar. 19, 1907 - The powder house on crusher hill was broken into and a considerable quantity of dynamite, fuse caps, etc. was stolen. Also the Strong City Post office and M. R. Clys' bookstore were robbed.

     There is a growing sentiment among the people of Chase County for a county fair.

     Having established storage tanks at Strong City, the Superior Refining Company of Longton, Kansas is here to stay. They will give one gallon of oil free to each customer.

     Charles J. Lantry of Strong City closed a deal for the sale of about ten thousand acres of his land in the county to C. C. Patton of Reading, Kansas. $193,000 was the purchasing price.

     Mar. 22 - Commissioner E. P. Allen was injured by a run away team with a disc plow behind.

     Mar. 26 - Lewis LaCoss won first honors in Oration and Miss Lucile Hildinger first in essay at the first annual contest given at the Chase County High School.

     John S. Petford an old citizen of Chase County, died at his home on East Buckeye of apoplexy. His wife Anna and two sons Jason and Harry survive him.

     Born to Mr. & Mrs Tom McCabe of Bazaar, a 9 pound daughter.

     Mar. 29 - Milton Clay and Seppie Johnson both raised in Chase County are married and Strong City will be their home.

     W. B. Penny had a sample of Chase County salt which came from the Dave Shaft farm near Clements. Mr. Shaft had drilled for oil and gas but instead got a salt well.

     Bert Holmes caught a four foot eel.

     J. L. Jacobs of Elmdale passed away.

     Apr. 2 - R. 0. Miner is elected a Mayor of the Falls. F. P. Gamer, elected Mayor of Elmdale.

     Apr. 5 - Robert Hix was appointed constable in Matfield in place of S. G. Nichols who resigned.

     The barber shops at the Falls will close at 8 PM except on Saturday nights.

     Apr. 9 - The past legislature passed a bill which will soon become a law requiring that all gasoline cans should be painted red.

     The busiest man in Cottonwood Falls is R. 0. Miner with his many jobs, being Mayor, County Treasurer, Manager of the Cottonwood Falls Mill and Elevator Company, Treasurer of the City School Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Trustee of the Church, Senior Warden of the Masonic Lodge, Band master of the boys band of the Falls. Besides he is a farmer and stockman, plus being a husband.

     W. J. Sayre, of Cedar Creek, one of our most progessive farmers had 18 head of fat steers on the Kansas City market that sold for $5.75 within 5 cents of the top.

     Apr. 12 - The rest of the cemetery fence will be put in at Prairie Grove within a few weeks.

     Mayor elected at Strong City is D. P. Boyd.

     The green bug has struck the wheat fields.
