Feb. 8 -- The ladies of the M. E. church will give a valentine social and literary
and musical entertainment at their church next Wed. evening.
P.J. McNee was appointed guardian of Jennie B., Alice, Anna, and James
McNee, minor heirs of Peter McNee, deceased.
Feb. 15 -- A marriage license issued to Thos. J. Woolwine and Jennie M. Jones, both
of Saffordville.
The snow that fell on the 7th had scarcely disappeared before it began to
fall again on the 12th.
John McCallum of Chase County will be a canidate for senator. John has
been referred to a "the big Irish sheriff of Chase Co."
The material for the new bridge west of Strong, is said to be on the ground,
and work begun.
Feb. 22 -- Frank Maybell & family have moved to a farm near Hymer.
June Smith & Dr. Hamme are attending Masonic Grand Lodge at Topeka, this week.
The ice men began putting up six-inch ice last Friday.
Joseph A. Schwilling died at his late residence, near the head of Rock Creek, Feb. 15th from the result of falling from the loft of his barn a few weeks previous.
Married by Judge McDonald, at the residence of the bride's parents, on Prairie
Hill, Sunday, Feb. 18, Alford Cahoone and Della Bare.
Mrs Nancy Emeline Blackburn, passed away near Matfield on Feb. 14.
March 1 -- John Surfluh, on Rock creek bought a double row corn lister from Harris & Co.
It is the first in the county.
F. H. Byrant, the Osteopath, has returned to this city and is again located
at his old office, at the residence of Ed Sullivan.
Strong City's opera house scheme has been delayed for a few days. There is
no law for incorporating an "opera house." and the Company will have to be
reorganized.
The Brandley trial is set for Monday, the 12th.
March 8 -- C. Crouch, auctioneer, Saffordville, has made a success of nearly every sale
he has conducted.
Ben Pierce has moved, and will farm for Clay Shaft.
Mr. Wilts will open up a meat market at Elmdale, and move his family here soon.
