     1908

     Nov. 17 - 1908 - Mrs K. J. Fink of Hymer died.

     Henry Giese of Cottonwood Falls and Fannie Harlan are married. Henry is a blacksmith by trade in Cottonwood Falls.

     Nov. 20 - Samuel Murdock died at the home of his son, J. H. Murdock, of Peyton creek.

     Nov. 24 - The Oberst Bakery is nearing completion. A fine oven has been put in, 12 by 14 feet and 100 loaves can be baked at one time.

     Dec. 11- John McDougal died at his home on Peyton Creek.

     Mrs. Dave Rettiger bought the Bank Hotel building and contents in Strong City. Her son Hubert, took possesion.

     Dec. 15 – Mrs. Arch Miller, Jr., of South Fork is the mother of a baby girl. Arch Miller, Jr. her father passed away in August of this year.

     Dec. 18 - Wm. S. Laughridge and Floy Byram are united in marriage at Cedar Point.

     Water was turned on from the spring into the water main and the south end of town was flooded. The pipe line was not connected to the stand pipe, so the water ran on the ground.

     Dec. 25 – Mrs. John Mailen died at her home in the south part of Cottonwood Falls. She leaves eight children to mourn her death.

     Dec. 29 - Iowa Airhart of the Falls and John V. Alford of Matfield Green are wed. John runs a drug store in Matfield Green, where they will reside.

     Jan. 1, 1909 - Will Brown of Cottonwood Falls is the only licensed undertaker in the county.

     Miss May Crawford of Clements died suddenly. Miss Crawford was well known all over the county being a school teacher. Mrs G. W. Bocook, wife of Dr. Bocook of Matfield Green passed away on Dec. 31st.

     Jan. 5 - Mr. & Mrs Henry Weaver celebrate their 50 years togather.

     Miss Anna Roniger, who was thrown from a buggy is improving. It was thought at first her back was broken but later developments show that it is only badly wrenched.

     Jan. 8 - T. R. Wells resigned as a member of the Chase County High School Board and Edward Thurston was appointed in his place.

     Mr. & Mrs A. J. Houghton are leaving Chase County to live in California.

     A ten pound son is born to the Tom Vinsons of the Falls.

     Jan. 12 - About one-half of the business district block on the east side of the street in Strong City was completely destroyed by fire. There was a strong north wind blowing that day.

     Jan. 12 - Dudley Doolittle, our new County Attorney, has moved his office from the old post office building to the courthouse.

     Jan. 15 - Four of the five buildings that burnt in Strong City will be rebuilt at once, only this time they will be built of stone or bricks.
