     Apr. 12 -- Old Grandma Ludwig died April 3.

     The children of Mr. & Mrs A. R. Ice, Clements, and a few friends, gave them a suprise on Sunday, it being a few days in advance on their 20th anniversary.

     Funeral of Capt. John C. McGinley held. After he came to Chase County and settled in Cottonwood Falls in 1869 where he learned the printer's trade in the office of the Leader, under W. A. Morgan.

     J. S. Byran sold $40 worth of turkeys last winter.

     The beating of the large log drift of logs against the dam during the last high water, caused Mr. Schriver a great deal of repairing.

     The board accepted the Gamer bridge, west of Strong, which is now completed, except the approaches, the cost of which is estimated at $140. The total cost of the $1,990 bridge so far is $2,253.

     Frank Alford has purchased his partner's interest in the Corner Grocery Store.

     Mr. Steele caught a fine string of fish in Buck creek last Saturday.

     Another son was born to Mr. & Mrs Jas. Coe, of Strong City.

     Smith Bros. have erected and are now operating a steam peanut rooster, and its noon whisle can be heard every day.

     Grant post, G. A. R. will meet at Frank Frey's about 10 miles west of Elmdale, tomorrow afternoon.

     Miss Rosa Schneider of Elmdale, died last Monday. The deceased was a splendid young woman and her death has caused sorrow wherever she was known.

     Theodore Sauble, Walter Sayre, Leafy Heckendorn, and Nettie Ewing left last Monday for South Africa, where the boys, having satisfactorily produced mustaches, are enabled to join Capt. Ewing's Co of stalwarts. The girls go as hospital assistants.

     Capt. Ewing was seriously injured for two days, in his attach on the British fortifications in South Africa.

     A new daughter arrived at the home of Jim Reed, Monday, April 16.

     Bert Campbell's school closed last Friday at Elk.

     Ed Hinote, 21 years old, of this city, was drowned in South Fork.

     Mrs Jennie H. Akers has been appointed postmaster at Elmdale.
