The first move in cleaning up the city of Cottonwood Falls was decided a success, as 27 wagon loads of trash were hauled away. Watch for the second move.
May 17 - Chase County is to have an automobile club. The by-laws have just been drawn up by Dr. C. L. Conaway.
Willard Park has charge of the section at Elmdale.
May 20 - The old Methodist church of Cottonwood Falls, which has done service for the past forty years is soon to give way to a newer and larger one.
L. B. Breese is putting out lots of wallpaper at five and ten cents a double roll.
May 31 - Capt. Henry Brandley died at his home at Matfield Green. His wife and eight children survive him. Mr. Brandley was 82 years of age.
Mrs. Harvey Underwood also of Matfield Green dropped dead of apoplexy while busy at her house work.
Jun. 3 - J. P. Maloney dies at the home of daughter, Mrs. Thomas Quinn at Strong City.
City Marshal George Long who handed in his resignation as marshal will take affect the 1st of June. He will attend the Santa Fe school at Topeka to study telegraphy. Ed Hudson will replace him.
Jun. 10 – Mrs. Columbus Rider of Elk died on her thirty-ninth birthday. She was the daughter of Mr & Mrs B. M. Smithers of Elmdale.
Jun. 14 - Marriage of Susie Hungerford and H. P. Riggs. They are both "Home grown Products."
Chautauqua held at Bates Park from July 23 to August l. This park and home are for sale by J. M. Bates.
Jun. 21 - A fine boy was born at the Fred Cahoone's. Also a son to Mr. & Mrs. Willard Swanson.
Jun. 24 - Nannie McDowell of Cottonwood Falls and Ralph Harman of Kansas City are married. Their home will be in Kansas City.
Jun. 28 - W. F. Rockwood of Cottonwood Falls is running for sheriff. He is a thrifty farmer and came to Chase County in 1867.
A big 4th of July celebration will be held in the P. H. Lind Grove one and a half miles north of Saffordville.
