     Jan 29, 1914 - Tom Norton has been selected by the County Commissioners as engineer for the county oil tractor and will have charge of the handling this machine and look after it and the crusher.


     Feb 5 - The second text book to be written by County Supt. Arnold during the past three years was adopted by the State School Book Commission in Topeka. Her latest work is a Kansas History.


     Feb. 12 - John Mann who has lived most of his life in Chase County is running for County Clerk. Fred Siler, Santa Fe Agent is running for Register of Deeds.


     W. P. Rettiger was confirmed by the Senate last week as postmaster of Strong City.


     Feb. 19 - Death of Mr. H. V. Simmons.


     During the past year, Chase County boys and farmers have collected as bounty money from the county a total of $1,018.40.


     Feb. 26 - M. D. Lyles of Saffordville died at his home.


     Mar. 5 - Mrs Benjamin Talkington and old pioneer of Chase County has passed away.


     Mar. 12 - This is the sixieth year that Wm. Forney of this city has been continuously engaged in the blacksmith business.


     The Pierce twins of Stribby creek are the proud owners of twin high chairs given to them by their papa.


     Mar. 19 - Margaret Becker of Prairie Hill and Harris Stewart of Saffordville are wed.


     Mar. 19 - A house warming was held for Mr. & Mrs T. J. Woolwine at Saffordville in the fine new home recently built by them.


     Mar. 26 - S. F. Jones formerly of Strong City has died. He owned the large ranch on Fox creek.


     Apr. 16 - Five typhoid fever cases have occurred at Cottonwood Falls and Strong City during the past week.


     Apr. 30 - Miss Neva Glennie & Wm. Thomas of Strong City were married.


     Lawrence C. Rogler, son of John & Catherine Rogler died at Matfield. He married Miss Emily Swift.


     Mr. & Mrs R. A. Stephenson of Clements are the proud parents of a baby girl.


     May 7 - Mary Austin died at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs James Austin. Besides her parents, Mary leaves a sister Mrs W. T. Glanville and a brother W. C. Austin of Topeka.


     Wm. Stenzel of Elmdale has passed away.


     May 14 - Born, a son named Wallace Bentley to Mr. & Mrs Will Rollins, east of Cottonwood Falls.


     Jun. 4 - Mrs Lucy Ellen Crawford, mother of Mrs. Jas. Cahoone, Mrs Lawrence Gustin, & Mrs Effie Fillmore died at her home in the south part of Cottonwood Falls.


     Jun. 11 - Fire Chief Ed Forney has been planning a fire alarm gong.
