May 9 1916 - Albert Rogler is the Mayor of Cottonwood Falls.
The largest bounty to be paid out by the County Treasurer, C. L. Whitcomb on coyotes in quite awhile was paid to Ed Lawrence, who turned in twenty-two.
May 12 - Solid oak rockers, $5.50, steel bed, any size, $6.00. Ad from McKenzie & Sawtell Furniture & Undertaking Co.
Henry Long Dry Goods Co. offers $1.00 night gowns, made of nainsook long cloth or plain white crepe.
Bids for the rural township high school building for Matfield will be opened on May 16th.
May 16 - Ice men these day have just about got to sell ice which is pure if they sell it for domestic purposes. The State Board of Health takes twelve different samples of ice from each dealer before a license can be issued, permitting him to sell ice for domestic or household use.
State Committee announces the dedication of the New Camp YMCA at Elmdale.
May 23 - Mrs Frank Oberst who has been ill the last six weeks, has died. She has been a continuous resident of Cottonwood Falls since 1873. Services were held at the German Lutheran Church at Strong City.
A meeting is held for the purpose of discussing the organizing of a farm bureau in the county. A majority of the townships of this county were represented.
May 26 - John Short is constructing the new store for Ed Brandley.
Mr. & Mrs J. B. Glanville who live east of town, are the parents of a baby girl.
May 30 - The Chase County jail has been empty for over forty days according to Sheriff Smith. This is the longest period without a prisoner in several years.
The sheriff's quarters at the court house have been quarantined due to the youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs J. B. Smith, being ill with scarlet fever.
Bids will be received by the Mayor and Council of the city of Cottonwood Falls covering the construction of a retaining wall on the north bank of the Cottonwood river between the dam and the bridge. Said retaining wall to be of stone.
Jun 2 - Uncle Sam is wanting men for the Army.
Joseph Shaw who has been ill several months, died at his daughter's home near Saffordville, Mrs Bert Wilson's.
Jun 6 - Dr. S. N. Mallison is preparing to leave for Canton, Ks. He has been in Cottonwood Falls a few months.
Mr. & Mrs S. M. Wood of Elmdale gave the site south of Elmdale for Camp Wood that has just been opened.
Howard Gardner and Lenora Pyle of Elmdale are married.
F. 0. Pracht is the Secretary of the Middle Creek Fair for 1916.
Miss Mattie Kirk who has been attending college at Hartford, Conn. the past winter has returned home.
