     1916


     Jul 25 1916 - Sid Cahoone did the pitching for Cottonwood Falls in a game with Clements, and got away in first class style, winning 13-4. Jay Errett was the big hitter.


     County Clerk , John Mann finished the task of writing about 4,500 names in preparing papers for the primary election. Some job, he says, for this hot weather.


     Jul 28 - Wm. Beiler father of Mrs Jas. McCabe of Bazaar, and Mr Roy Heathman of Homestead, died at his daughter's home.


     Geo. George is the janitor of the Chase County High School.


     Aug 1 - Born to Mr. & Mrs Chas. Simmons, near Neva a fine new son.


     Miss Erna Barr, better known as Dolly, died at the home of her sister, Mrs Stella Loomis at Lost Springs. Burial was in the family burial ground.


     Aug 4 - Hattie Merritt & Dick Hager are married at Emporia.


     Geo. Ellis and Dug Raymer are busy this week fitting up a cigar and confectionery store in a rented store owned by Mrs Kerr, on the west side of Broadway.


     Arthur Crocker won the nomination for State Senator over his opponent by over 1,000 votes.


     Aug 8 - Rooms for light housekeeping for students or room & board - Mrs Clark Hunt.


     Aug 11 - Flora Hope Coverdill oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs J. W. Coverdill of this city was married to Clyde Pretzer of Diamond creek. This marriage was quite a surprise to their friends in Chase County and even their own parents did not know.


     A Farm Bureau for Chase County is assured. New members are now being secured.


     Aug 15 - Mrs Caroline Bottiger wife of W. P. Bottiger, died at her home near Plymouth, following a short illness.


     Aug 18 - The cost of the recent primary in Chase County was a little more than 33.3 cents per vote. There was a total of 2,625 votes cast.


     The first case of hog choleria this summer occured on the Peter McCallum farm on Middle creek.


     Aug 22 - Clara Jane McCabe only daughter of Mr. & Mrs James McCabe and Hubert Rettiger, both of Strong City were married at Pueblo, Co. Mr. Rettiger is the son of Mrs Rose Rettiger.


     Aug 25 - Mr. & Mrs Harold Wood of Elmdale will be making their position in the animal husbandry department of the Agricultural college. Inspection will be made of all the orchards by Prof. Geo. 0. Greene of the Agricultural college.


     Aug 29 - Mr. F. I. Beach died at his home in Cottonwood Falls. He married Margery Glennie of Strong City in February of 1895.


     Albert Rogler has just completed filling four big silos on his farm at Matfield Green.
