     1917

     Jan 5 1917- Fritz Fillmore dies at the home of his sister, Mrs Oliver Burton and family of Bazaar. He married Effie Crawford in 1900 and they were the parents of Walter, Edith. Margaret and Ethel.

     Jan 9 - The first of the new half dollars which were recently minted at the U. S. mint at Philadelphia, were put in circulation by the Exchange National Bank.

     Dr. H. E. Lancaster of Strong City has been appointed as one of the Chase County Trustees to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Frank Sheets.

     Chase County reports eleven cases of small pox and eight cases of chicken pox. Cedar Point, Elmdale, and Bazaar have most of the cases.

     Jan 12- The new Chase County Farm Bureau opens with a membership of nearly 300 farmers and stock-raisers. Prestion Hale has just been elected advisor of the new bureau at an annual salary of $1,800, and will take up office quarters at the Masonic Hall building.

     Jan 16 - The Ladies Benevolent Society of this city, will celebrate the 25th. year of its organization in Feb.

     Albert Rogler of this city, has bought from J. E. Bocook the Harry Brandley farm, better know as the Jas. Martin place on South Fork, which contains 440 acres. It adjoins a part of Mr. Rogler's farm. This gives Mr. Rogler 2,000 acres of Chase County land.

     Jan 17 - Mrs Chas. Sherffius, Sr. died at her home in Elmdale. She was the mother of seven children, all of whom are living.

     Jan 26 - Miss Bessie Eastman, daughter of J. W. Eastman of Thurman was united in marriage to N. H. Olson.

     Harry Holmes of Clements will hold a public sale on his farm near Clements in Feb.

     Death of Stephen D. Breese. During recent years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs P. S. Thurston and Family, near Elmdale.

     Mrs Faris of Elmdale entertained the Camp Fire Girls at her home.

     Feb 6 - A very pretty home wedding was solomnized at the residence of Mr. & Mrs A. M. Ice, north of Cedar Point. Mary A. Ice, their daughter married Milton P. Rothermel of Hoisington.

     John Bechelmayr of Elmdale has moved, into the new house on the old King place, south of Elmdale.

     Feb 16 - Marie T. Gamer and Harry Copeland were married at the Catholic church on Valentine's day. They will go to housekeeping on the ImMasche farm. Also married were Clara Holmberg and Chauncey M. Drawbridge.

     Feb 20 - Dr. J. W. Stone, one of the pioneer physicians of this county, has died at his home in Kentucky. Dr. Stone lived in Chase County for 10 years, coming here in the early 1880's.

     Virginia May Howard 5 year old daughter of G. B. and Mattie Howard of this city died on Feb. 14th.

     Feb 23 - Mr. & Mrs Dick Hays expect to leave the first of March for their farm pear Carlsbad, New Mexico, where they will stay for three to four months.

     Carl C. Whitlock, second oldest son to Mr. & Mrs C. A. Whitlock died at the home of his sister. Carl was born at Clements.
