     1917

     Feb 27-1917 - John Sharp who has been very ill with pneumonia, died at his home at Bazaar. With the passing of Mr. Sharp, Chase County lost one of its first settlers and one of its most widely know and respected of men.

     John E. Erickson, of Canaan, died at his home. Mr. Erickson who was seventy-one years of age, came to Chase County nearly fifty years ago.

     Mar 2 - The Peter Hamilton's moved to Topeka, where they expect to make their future home.

     Frank Yeager, Mr. North, F. M. Gaddie, Mr. & Mrs Nate Russell, Mr. & Mrs Arthur Crocker, went to Wichita to attend the cattlemen's convention.

     Mar 6 - Sudden death of Otto Benninghoven in Kansas City while attending the last day of the motor show. He died of pneumonia.

     Josie Pinkston and Wm. Foushee are wed.

     Dr. C. M. Owen formerly of this city, died at his home in Louisiana. The Owens family moved to New Orleans in 1916.

     Also the death of Mrs Michael Fritz.

     The Replogle & Kuhl Drug Co. is having the interior of their store redocorated. L. W. Heck is doing the painting and decorating.

     There are numerous cases of measles in several different parts of the county.

     Mar 9 - F. E. Smith who served a sheriff and under sheriff for a number of years died at Cedar Vale. Mr. Smith second wife was Isabel Copeland.

     The long dry spell has been broken, after forty days, rain and snow fell which will be a benefit.

     Mar 13 - Mr. George W. Jackson, Chase County's oldest resident has died.

     A baby boy was born to Mr. & Mrs Will Potter of Rock creek.

     Mar 20 - Death of Russell C. Harris near Neva at his sons home, A. G. Harris.

     Also C. A. Loney, of this city passed away.

     The streets of Cottonwood Falls will be sprinkled this season, to keep the dust down.

     The Cottonwood city school and several others have closed on account of the wide-spread measles.

     Mr. & Mrs Jess Bailey have a new baby boy.

     Mar 23 - Maude Kuhl and Cecil Cox are wed.

     Mar 27 - Chase County mourns over the death of W. A. Morgan, a resident of Chase County for forty-six years. Mr. Morgan was the founder of the Chase County Leader, and editor of this paper for over thirty years. Mr. Morgan was a native of Ireland.

     Mar 30 - Earl T. Johnston, a Chase County boy who is the son of Mr. & Mrs E. B. Johnston, of this city, is one of the latest young Kansas man to go to France where he will see duty on the western front aiding wounded soldiers.

     Wes Woolwine formerly of Toledo township has died at Dodge City.

     Martha Spitler & Earl Pierce are united at the Home of the bride's mother at Clements.

     Apr 3- Edna May Dawson & Walter R. Kruegar are wed. The bride's parents are, Mr. & Mrs Geo. E. Dawson.
