     Apr 31917 - Ira Kabler is the new barber who will occupy the barber shop just completed by Al Ryan south of the Ryan & Maloney Restraunt in Strong City.

     Apr 6 - Mr. & Mrs W. W. Sanders of this city, passed the fifieth anniversary of their wedding, locating in this city in 1871. Mr. Sanders has been in the banking business for the past thirty-four years. He is the cashier for the Chase County National Bank.

     Geo. A. McNee of this city, has donated to the Chase County High School and this city the use of seven and one-eighth acres of land adjoining the townsite on the east for an athletic field. The land is now being put in condition.

     City Mayor, Albert Rogler has set April 12th. as clean-up day for this city.

     The E. Brown & Son Furniture & Undertaking Co. of this city has purchased the undertaking stock of A. L. Bocook at Matfield Green. Mr. Jesse Snedegar will be in charge of the business.

     The Odeon Theatre at Cottonwood Falls, movie showing, "Snow White", a play for children, admissions 15 and 25 cents.

     Mr. & Mrs T. R. Albin of Canaan are the parents of a new baby girl.

     Apr 13 - Geo. A. Proeger, father of Mrs W. W. Austin of this city has died. Mr. Proeger was a resident of the Toledo neighborhood for many years. Mr. Proeger was a veteran of the civil war and was born in Germany. His wife the former Emma Beasley, passed away in 1907. Mr. Proeger is survived by eight children.

     Married - Vella Odle & Charles Overstreet at the home of the bride in Cedar township.

     Mrs Wm. Snedegar has opened up a millenery shop in Matfield Green.

     Apr 17 - 10 cents each for a gallon honey or syrup pails clean, not rusty. Leave at Capwell's Studio.

     Apr 20 - Diamond & Middle creek farmers hard hit by flood.

     Ray Eastman died at Axtell hospital at Newton, by a sudden heart attack He had been operated on for appendicitis but was recovering well from it.

     Apr 24 - The wedding of a very well.known and popular young Chase County couple was that of Loyette Marie Harvey and Percy Burnett. After their honeymoon they will go to Hymer where they will make their home.

     The McKenzie-Sawtell Furniture & Undertaking Co. of this city closed a deal for the purpose of the furniture & undertaking business of J. M. Fitch, of Elmdale. Geo. Holmes will be in charge of the Elmdale business.

     May 1 - Many enlist from this county and expect to be ready to go to the front if Uncle Sam needs them, they are; Lee Graham, Hugh Thompson, & Isaac Vernon from Clements and John Scribner of Saffordville.

     A fine seven pound daughter was born to Mr. & Mrs Chauncey Childs of Neva. May 4 - No idle pastures in Chase County as trainloads of Texas and Western cattle are now pouring into Chase county.

     Mrs Clyde Pretzer & Miss Laura Dean were elected delegates from the Methodist Sunday School at Elmdale.
