     1917

     Jun 19 1917 - At their last council meeting the Strong City council decided to install a drinking fountain and watering trough for horses on the main street. It will be located on the west side of the street near the jewelry store of Mrs Hughes.

     A fine baby daughter was born to Mr. & Mrs Fred Romigh, west of this city.

     The people of Bloody creek and Vernon vicinities are planning to celebrate the 4th of July in the Matti Grove.

     Jul 3 - Thomas J. Harvey died at his home east of Strong City. He and his wife came to Strong City and later moved to a farm two miles east of town where he has farmed since.

     Mr. & Mrs Frank Yeager, of Bazaar are the parents of a baby boy. He weighed 5 pounds and has been named Geo. W. after his grandfather Yeager.

     Lake Tahoe on the Sayre farm near Cedar Point is again one of the most popular resort places in this section of the state during the summer season.

     Jul 6 - The C. E. Houston's have just moved into their new home in the northwest part of this city. It is a large square structure of frame and stucco. One unusal feature is two mamouth, old fashion fireplaces.

     Wm. Mercer, of Homestead sells 800 acres of his land to Arnold Burns of Peabody.

     Jul 10 - A quiet wedding, which came to somewhat of a surprise to a good many friends of the bride was that of Edith North of Bazaar and Harry Cameron of Cassoday.

     Horses for Uncle Sam's Artillery are being purchased by agents of the government here this week. The agents are buying nothing under 1300 or 1400 pounds.

     Harry & Earl Nelson are both fitting up their threshing rigs preparatory to starting out.

     Jul 13 - Harry C. O'Reilley, made the Fourth of July address at the Middle creek celebration.

     Dave Wood who recently started excavating for a large residence, will build on the block he purchased of W. A. Morgan, just north of the Gregory house. The building will be of brick and stone.

     Jul 17 - A big, old time, round-up day which promises to be attended by people from all sections of this county has been planned by the town of Matfield Green.

     Joe Schwilling and wife have a new bouncing baby girl.

     Jul 20 - John Klatt, who suffered for a number of years from tuberculosis died at his sister's Mrs Walter Fink home on Fox creek. John was 35 years old.

     M. H. Lewis, another one of Chase counties oldest settler's, died at his home in Strong City of heart trouble. His life's work was well done.

     This is camp week for the older folks at the YMCA camp at Elmdale.

     J. D. Barrett is completing what is one of the finest bungalow homes in the county on his farm several miles east of the city. The building has been under construction now for nearly a year. Chase county native limestone is being used.
