     Jul 20 1917 - Whole hams at 30 cents per pound at Soule's of Clements, a pound of coffee, thirty cents.

     The little daughter of Mr. & Mrs Hod Johnson of Thurman has been named Ruth Ellan.

     Jul 24 - The fact that she is ninety-two is not keeping Mrs Betty Osborn, the mother of John Osborn, of this city from showing her patriotism by knitting for the soldier boys.

     Jul 27 - Many fish are killed by the big rain and hail storm, which fell over a large section of Chase County.

     Glen Burton of Bazaar received a severly cut head, when a team was running away with a hayrack and ran over him.

     Jul 31- Marie Barnes, formerly of Wonsevu died in Topeka. She came to Chase county with her parents in 1863.

     Aug 7 - The little two-year-old daughter of Mr. & Mrs Fred Wagoner of Matfield Green died following a short illness due to summer complaint.

     District #6 is receiving sealed bids for the putting in of a concrete floor in the basement of the city school building.

     Chris Kaufman of Prairie Hill has purchased the W. C. Giese property in the north part of the city. It will be rented out.

     Aug 10 - Dr. W. S. Mason, retired physician and extensive land owner of this county, died suddenly at his home near Wonsevu.

     The big Chautauqua tent on the high school grounds was damaged by the storm.

     Aug 14 - Miss Olive Wilcox, an American Red Cross nurse, writes home to her parents Mr. & Mrs E. J. Wilcox from France.

     Aug 17 - Mr. Clarence Pendergraft & Elsie Pohl are married.

     The new Matfield Green Rural High School is almost completed.

     Aug 21 - Alfalfa hay is selling for $23 per ton. This is a new record on the price of alfalfa.

     Aug 28 - E. W. Jeffrey of Elmdale and Gertrude Critten were united in marriage

     Also Marie Speer and Walter David are wed.

     Cecil Kuhl buys full interest from Replogle and is the sole owner of the drug store.

     Aug 28 - Mrs Fritz Fillmore has rented the Walter Holsinger house on Oak street and is preparing to keep roomers and boarders this winter.

     Aug 31 - Henry Schrumpf begins the building of his new home, a eleven room frame residence. John Short is building it at the cost of about $5,000.

     Dr. Frank Johnson of Elmdale is the first phase county physician to enter the U. S. Medical Service. He was commissioned a Captain with a salary of $250 per month.

     Sep 4 - Thomas Quinn of Strong City died at his home after only a few days of illness. Mr. Quinn came from Ireland when only a small boy. Strong City has been his home since the year 1880 and he has been a stone cutter by trade. Age almost 45 years.
