     Sep 4 1917 - J. A. Mann is preparing to build a large garage building east of the courthouse. The front will be of stucco, and large plate glass windows.

     A motor car will be put on the line, to take the place of the present horse car.

     Sep 7 - Following a long illness, Mrs Henry Wagoner of Matfield Green passed away. Mrs Wagoner has been an invalid for the past ten to twelve years. Besides her husband she leaves a large family of sons and daughters.

     The total number of women and girls registering here in the war service registration was 110 women.

     Henry Williams, east of Cedar Point is building a handsome new residence on his farm to replace the home which was destroyed by fire last year.

     Sep 11 - The fourteenth year of the Chase County High School opened with an enrollment of between 170-180 students.

     J. L. Goad and two sons, Curtis and Leonard, and his son-in-law, Guy Park, all returned from a motor trip thru Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, The Dakotes and Nebraska. They went for the purpose of looking at government land.

     Albert Rogler buys the 3,120 acre Frank Lee Ranch southeast of this city.

     W. R. Ice was the lucky boy to receive the appointment to carry the mail on the rural route out of Cedar Point.

     Sep 14 - Receiving awards at the Topeka State Fair were; Jas. McCabe, first on five stocks of corn and third on best sheaf of millett, John Quinn; second on his exhibit of alfalfa, Frank Copeland; first on the best twelve stalks of Felerita and B. A. Rufener; l st.on sheaf of wheat.

     Mr. & Mrs Fred Jones of the Canaan vacinity are the happy parents of a new baby son.

     W. K. Kline is suffering from a broken ankle, received while drilling in the ElDorado Oil fields.

     Sep 14 - Kay Golden of Matfield Green went to Homestead to work for Will Mercer.

     Sep 18 - A quiet wedding which was solemnized was that of Addie Erickson of Saffordville and A. A. Wright.

     Billy Reifsnyder is the latest employee at the round house.

     Sep 21 - There is a new editor of the New-Courant of Strong City.

     The Chase County National Bank has been selected as one of the State Depositories for the State money for the next two years.

     Sep 25 - The orchard of the Rettiger Bros west of Strong City comprizes fifty acres of fine apple trees which number about 3,000. They were the winners on twenty-five varieties at the State Fair at Hutchinson last week.

     Mrs Elizabeth Browning an old settler of the Bazaar vacinity, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Dan Archer.

     John Wells, who enlisted is now stationed at Hempstead, N. Y., with the Rainbow Division awaiting orders to go to France.
