     Sep 28 1917 - The new standard atlas of the U. S. which has just been published put Matfield Green under the name of the Santa Fe.

     John Shofe is putting on a large cut stone porch at the H. L. Prather Clover Cliff residence which is 74 feet by 10 feet.

     Oct 2 - The new school house at Matfield Green will be dedicated Thursday evening in the auditorium.

     Oct 5 - Edward Gardner, of Elmdale and Dorothy Brecht of Homestead were wed.

     Oct 9 - Henry Cahoone has sold his delivery business to Ira Smith. Mrs. Cahoone and wife will move to the farm his brother Sidney recently purchased from Mrs Julia Strauhs, west of Strong City.

     Tom Mercer, of Homestead, will have a public sale. He and his family are moving to the Falls and will rent out the farm.

     Oct 12 - As a result of playing war games Earl Granger, the four year old son of Mr. & Mrs Walter Granger of Matfield Green shot his two year old brother, Willard, through the throat with a small rifle. The injured boy is not believed to be serious.

     Oct 16 - Chase county is soon to have its first rock road. Plans have been made to build a rock road to connect Cottonwood Falls and Strong City, which will require two miles.

     The staff of the "Optimist" the monthly paper published last year by the Chase county high school students, expect to issue the first number soon.

     There will be a combination pie social and box social at the Hymer school house - Nora Goad, teacher.

     Oct 19 - Al Murdock, of near Saffordville lost 100 head of cattle in the stock yards fire at Kansas City.

     Oct 19 - The first Cedar creek colt show held at Lake Tahoe on the Charles Sayre farm proved a fine day for all involved.

     Haircuts to go up November 1st. New prices will be 35 cents, where before it was 25 cents.

     Oct 23 - Walter 0. Buffington, of the Falls and Sophia Warner of Clements were united in marriage at the bride's home and whose parents are Mr. & Mrs Henry Warner.

     Oct 30 - The death of Mrs T. J. Banks, near Matfield Green due to pneumonia. Her husband and fourteen children are left to mourn her.

     The sugar shortage is being felt in this city. Some housewifes are using home made sorghum.

     New postal rates go up from 2 cents to 3 cents.

     Nov 9 - The dedication of Bazaar's new school house was well attended.

     Nov 12 - Half a doxen Chase County high school boys proved their ability as corn-huskers, when they were excused from their classes one day, to help Chas. Ward, a farmer living east of this city to gather his corn crop. The boys husked out nearly 300 bushels during the day.

     W. A. Pretzer of Elmdale died at Topeka, his health was failing for seveal months.
