     Apr 5 1918 - Plans are under consideration here for the organizing and maintaining of a Home Guard. They would require around 260 men.

     Apr 9 - George E. Hailey and Lena Maybell, both of Hymer are married at the home of D. L. Hilton in this city. They will live on the Andrew Drummond farm.

     Sawtell sells his interest in the store and business to his partner, Ernest McKenzie.

     Apr 16 - The golden anniversary is celebrated by Mr. & Mrs Aaron Jones at Saffordville, where all of their children and grandchildren were present.

     Another of Chase County's old soldier and settler has answered the call and passed into the great beyond. Thomas Jefferson Pyles, came to Silver creek in 1866, near Clements.

     Apr 19 - Chauncey Wilcox, oldest son of Mr. & Mrs E. J. Wilcox, formerly of this city, was married to Marie Russell. They will go to housekeeping in Strong City. Chauncey is a brakman working for Santa Fe.

     About 60 friends and neighbors of Mr. & Mrs Frank Frey of Stribby creek, gathered at the Frey home to help Mr. Frey celebrate his 72 birthday.

     Mr. & Mrs Harve Riggs and Mr. & Mrs John Sidener, both of the Wonsevu area have new baby girls.

     Apr 23 - Many cattleman who had livestock on grazing in this county were hard hit by last Friday's snow storm and cold weather.

     John Frew tendered his resignation as County Engineer.

     Geo. McNee had workmen commence this week to tear down the old Ferlet Hotel, north of the telephone office.

     The building of Geo. Capwell's on the west side of Broadway is nearing completion. Mr. Capwell expects to move to his new studio about the first of May.

     Apr 26 - Chase County is "over the top" in its third Liberty Loan Campaign. County Chairman is C. L. Whitcomb.

     Ephriam Pinkston, of Cedar Point and Frances Virginia Houseman of Burton, Ks. are wed. The will make their home on the Pinkston Bros. ranch south of Cedar Point.

     The corner stone of the new Methodist church in Elmdale was laid with appropriate ceremonies.

     Apr 30 - W. W. Austin will be the manager of the second Red Cross drive.

     The trustees of the Methodist church at Strong City have purchased the John Turnpaugh house that will be used as a parsonage.

     May 3 - The High School Annual was put out this week. The book is an excellent volume.

     May 7 - Mrs. J. E. Bocook has been appointed as County Chairman for Chase county to have charge of the War Savings Stamps & Thrift Stamp Campaign.

     May 13 - With this issue the Leader begins publication three time a week.

     May 17 - C. Laloge, photographer. Kodak film finishing, prompt service, Cedar Point, Kansas.

     Ernest McKenzie sells his furniture store and business at Elmdale to Val Englert, of that place.
