May 22 1918 - Miss Lizzie McCandless, who has been a teacher in the Cottonwood Falls city school for several years has accepted a position as teacher in the primary department of the city schools of Hutchinson.
Dietrich & Crook of Saffordville sold four large hay balers and two tractor engines last week.
The funeral services of Wm. Hubert who died at his home east of Strong City were held in the German-Lutheran church in Strong City. He was laid to rest in the Strong City Cemetery.
The valuation of taxable property, both real and personal, in this county shows big increases over preceeding years, according to County Assessor, J. A. Mann.
May 24 - There is much activity in road improvement and more expecially of bridge building.
May 27 - Mr. & Mrs Chas. Caress are the proud parents of a daughter. They have three sons and this is the first girl.
May 29 - Bessie Wood has gone to Washington, D. C., where she accepts a clerkship in the war department. She will be in the offices of the Navy.
May 31 - The Consolidated Street Railway Co. between Strong City and Cottonwood discontinued service last Saturday without notice to the public.
Jun 3 - Newton Sayre, the oldest son of Mr. & Mrs W. R. Sayre of Cedar Point, enlisted in the Navy. Dave Hilton, son of Mr. & Mrs D. L. Hilton, enlisted in the coast artillery.
Mr. & Mrs Wm. Jackson of Matfield Green have a new son.
Jun 5 - Class one men will soon be exhausted from Chase County.
Roy Mushrush,and Victor Bocook, of this city and Chas. Scribner and Arthur Selves of Saffordville, all enlisted in the Navy department, except Arthur Selves who enlisted in the coast artillery. The other three boys are ordered to report at Puget Sound, Washington.
The American Hotel has just completed several improvements to the hotel building.
Jun 7 - Strong City merchants, business men and residents offer their services to aid in the wheat harvest due to a shortage of man power with the war on.
Sam Miser died at his home west of Bazaar, after an illness of many weeks.
Jun 10 -John E. Drinkwater of Cedar Point was wounded on the battle front in France.
Jun 12 - Bids will be received by the Board of Education of District #3, Chase County at Cedar Point for the erection and completion of a new school building to be located at Cedar Point.
The brick bungalow of J.C.F. Kirk in the east part of the city is going up quite rapidly now.
John Riddle & Sadie Hull are married. Also Andy Tarrant & Katie Wagoner. Both couples are from Matfield Green.
6-14- The Brown Undertaking Co. has completed a very neat and commodious chapel or funeral room in their rooms for the accomodation of those who desire services held there.
