     Jul 19 1918 - A good many people of this city and vicinity are planning on making the Chautauqua run from this place to Strong City and from there to Emporia.


     Jul 24 - By selling a carload of purebred Hereford cows on the St. Jo livestock market a few days ago at $13 per hundred pounds, Wm. Mercer of Homestead, set a new record for high priced cows on that market.


     An important meeting for the reorganization of the Cedar Valley Colt Show will be held at Wonsevu.


     Frank Copeland died at his home in the south part of this city. He and his wife moved from their farm west of Strong City early last spring due to his illness.


     Jul 24 - Frank Judd and Sylvia Watchous, both of Bazaar, are united in marriage.


     Jul 26 - Chautauqua profits to Red Cross and Y.M.C.A.


     Jul 29 - Saffordville will open its first Chautauqua session which will continue for five days. Their Chautauqua will over-lap the six days Chautauqua program which is being held in this city.


     Jul 31- The funeral service of Thomas H. Grisham was one of the most impressive services of the kind probably ever held here. His wife is the former Sadie E. Park.


     Aug 2 - All attendance records continues to break former records for the Chautauqua so far this year.


     Aug 5 - Ralph B. Breese has passed away. He is the son of Asa M. and Hannah Breese. He was married to Maude Thomas of Elmdale in 1898.


     The Updike Hotel at Cedar Point was completely destroyed by fire. The frame building was one of the largest in Cedar Point.


     Mr. & Mrs Roy Maybell, south of the city, are the proud parents of twin sons.


     Also Mr. & Mrs Fred Austin of this city, a new daughter.


     Aug 7 - Captain Paul Cartter of this city, is wounded on the front between Soissons and Rheims. It is a shrapnel wound in the left shoulder which will lay him up about 30 days.


     Aug 9 - The death of Mrs John Obley of Saffordville.


     Mr. & Mrs Benton Thompson, of Cedar Point are the parents of a daughter. This is the seventh child of Mr. & Mrs Thompson.


     Americans are asked to limit use of sugar.


     Aug 14 - Clara Bailey Breese, wife of L. B. Breese died at her home in Elmdale. She taught school in Chase county for a number of years. The only child Julia Maud born to this union died at the age of 17 of TB.


     Aug 16 - Joseph Burton died at his home west of Bazaar. He had suffered a severe stroke the evening before. The funeral was held at Oliver Burton's home, who is a son.


     Aug 19 - Frank Howard of this place has just purchased the 2,880 acre ranch of Geo. A. McNee, of this city. The ranch is located on Bloody creek.
