     Aug 21 1918 - Alfalfa is hard hit by the dry weather.

     Aug 23 - The systematic marking of all county roads and national trails in this county is now underway. The work being in charge of County Engineer, Edward Cooke and County Commissioner George Robertson, of this city.

     Aug 26 - Mr. S. E. Whitney of Hymer died at his home following a long illness.

     8-26- While bathing in a pond on the McDowell ranch southeast of Matfield Green, Omar Fent, a Chase County High School boy 19 years old, the son of Mr. & Mrs Alfred Fent of Matfield and his cousin Alvin North, of New Mexico, were drowned when the boys got beyond their depth.

     Josephine Maloney of Strong City and Walter Teat, formerly of this city, but now of Topeka are wed.

     Aug 28 - The 25th. anniversary of Mr. & Mrs Louis Frey, Jr., of Stribby creek is celebrated.

     Aug 30 - Bank robbers at Elmdale attempted to loot the bank but were detected by citizens of the town before they could accomplish their purpose.

     Elmdale High School will open for work, September 9th. and that a three years course will be open to girls and boys, according to H. L. Prather, President of the school board.

     Sep 2 - Victoria Mercer of Matfield Green and Roy L. Bastin of Homestead are wed at the bride's home of Mr. & Mrs Dave Mercer.

     Fred Scherenbergs death occurred at his home near Cedar Point. Besides a wife, he leaves four sons and two daughters. The remains were laid to rest in the Griffith cemetery.

     Sep 9 - Bazaar put on a sort of bronc-busting exhibition which was held on thebaseball grounds just northeast of Bazaar. Victor Kirk planned the event and who was one of the principal riders of the afternoon. Other riders were Tim Lawrence, Andy Tarrant and one of the Judd boys. Quite a crown took in the fun and they were not disappointed either, it is said.

     Sep 11 - The Consolidated Street Railway Co. which has been a thing of the past for the last few months will again be in operation.

     The tennis courts at the high school have been nicely cleaned off and ready for use.

     Sep 13 - Men 19 to 20 and 32 to 36 to be called first according to the local registration board.

     Sep 16 - Minnie Reifsnyder and Charles Edward Payne both of Strong City are wed. Both were raised in Chase County.

     Mr. & Mrs Ernest Treimer are the happy parents of a baby girl.

     9-18 - Following is a few teachers hired for the coming school year. Ice: Ruth Brickell, Buck Creek: Margaret Buffington, Forest Hill: Grace Selves, Banks: Dorothy Eastman, Patton: Mae Blackburn, Elinor: Edith Wilson, and Wonsevu: Laura Fent.

     Sep 20 - Letters from Floyd and Kent Potter written home to Mr. & Mrs J. W. Potter, east of this city, from France. Published in the Chase County Leader.
