Sep 23 1918 - John Shofe sells 32 acre farm.
Sep 30 - The second year of the Daylight Savings Law will turn clocks back an hour on October 27th.
The first death among Chase county soldiers as a result of pneumonia is Frank Faris at Fort Sheridan. Frank is from Elmdale.
A house warming party is held at the newly constructed home of Mr. & Mrs Henry Schrumpf south of this city.
A young couple Daisy Weatherholt and Walter B. Sherdian, both of Homestead are united in marriage.
Oct 4 - Bazaar breaks cattle record shipments.
Oct 7 - County Health Officers M. W. Woodhull and A. E. Titus ordered all schools of the county closed due to the widespread epidemic of the Spanish influenza or the grip which have been prevalent. Several deaths have already occurred.
Mr. & Mrs Earl Miser of Bazaar have a new baby girl named Cora Elizabeth.
Oct 11 - Frank Faris and Don Harder two Chase county boys in the service of their country have died as a rusult of the influenza.
Oct 14 - Why not buy a Kimbell piano from Ernest McKenzie.
Oct 16 - A New Oliver typewriter sells for $49.00 F.O.B. factory and a ten percent discount if paid in cash - Carl B. Cowley, Cottonwood Falls Agent.
Delos F. Drinkwater born at Cedar Point in 1881 has died at Cottonwood Falls, aged 36 years. Fritz as he was commonly known edited the Cottonwood Valley News for the past six years and was in charge of the moving picture show at Strong City.
Many citizens of Chase county are on the sick list with the influenza.
Oct 21 - With only complete reports from two of the eight banks of this county, Chase county has gone over its Fourth Liberty Loan. This counties quota was $312,000.
Henry Symes a pioneer of Elk has passed away.
Corporal Churchill Greene of Bazaar has been wounded in France.
Oct 23 - Flu cases are gradually decreasing, according to Drs. Woodhull and Titus.
Private Howard Wood son of Mr. & Mrs C. D. Wood of Elmdale was killed in action somewhere in France.
T. J. Banks who lived many years near Matfield Green has died. He had married Rachel Bray in 1868, who bore him twelve children. He had six children by a former wife.
Oct 25 - Corp. Marion Sidener, son of Mr. & Mrs F. M. Sidener of Wonsevu and Burns was reported as killed in the Champagne front in France.
Oct 30 - The state health department will permit opening of schools on
Nov. 4th. It may become necessary to close certain schools in the county on account of new break of the influenza.
Nov 1 - The biggest draft call ever ordered since the beginning of the war will be 37 men from this county.
