     1918

     Nov 1 1918 - Harry Gaddie, son of Mr. & Mrs Frank Gaddie of Bazaar died of the flu, then his sister, Mrs Harry Hays submits to the same illness. A double funeral will be held at the Gaddie home.

     Nov 6 - Glen Umberger of Hymer dies at Camp Meade, Maryland of the flu.

     Nov 8 - Russell Blackburn dies of wounds received in the recent fighting in the Verdon sector of France. Russell is from Bazaar, the son of Mr. and Mrs W. R. Blackburn.

     October was wet and warm according to the records kept by E. B. Greene, of Bazaar.

     Nov 11 - Everybody celebrates the end of World War I. Schools, Business houses, and offices were all closed for the celebrations.

     Olive Myers and Ralph Reyer both of the Saffordville vicinity were married in a quiet home ceremony. The will go to housekeeping on the Lind farm at Canaan.

     Nov 13 - Government cancels draft call.

     The Elmdale public school attended the funeral services of Glen Umberger in a body.

     Nov 15 - Chase county sends 6 tons of clothing to the Belgians.

     May purchase wheat flour without substitutes now.

     Lucy McLinden was noted for her ambition and when the hospital at the military barracks of the R.O.T.C. called for volunteers she was one of the first to do so. In a few short days she too was a victim of the influenza. Lucy was 21 years old.

     Nov 20 - The first big coyote round-up of the season in Chase county is scheduled. The captains for the drive are; Harry Starkey, James Archer, Frank Yeager and Jonas Potter.

     Nov 29 - Twin boys born to Mr. & Mrs Roy Maybell of this city; Twins, a boy and a girl to Mr. and Mrs Wm. Selves of this city and also twin boys to Mr. & Mrs G. B. Howard of this city.

     Nov 29 - The Oldmaids club held a minus party in Stuarts hall at Elmdale. Men were the minus quantity.

     Dec 2 - Santa Fe Railway Company is by far the biggest tax payer among Chase County's public service corporations.

     The new school building at Cedar Point will probably be finished sometime in December.

     A baby daughter was born to Mr. & Mrs Harry Hudson of the city. She tips the scales at 8 pounds.

     Dec 4 - Mrs J. L. Goad of Middle creek has died.

     Wm. Swift, son of Mr. & Mrs Forester Swift of Matfield Green returned home from Camp Funston, and has just received his discharge papers.

     Also discharged was George Sager at Camp Dodge, Iowa.

     Miss Irene Sayre, 15 years old of Cedar creek has died of the influenza. Daughter of Mr. & Mrs Tom Sayre.
