     1919


     Sep 8 1919 - Several of the remote schools have been unable to engage teachers as yet. One problem is the wages.


     Sep 10 - A train hits the motor bus that was crossing the tracks at Strong City. Walter Hassen was the driver of the motor bus, and the bus was overturned and one wheel badly damaged, but Mr. Hassen escaped with scarcely a scratch.


     Sep 15 - Geo. Gamer died at his home in Strong City. He has had a long residence in Chase County.


     Sep 17- Mary Overstreet, of Cedar creek and Victor Bocook, of this city were married.


     Grace Norton and Roy Beedle are also wed, on the Norton ranch, near Bazaar. Chase county will be their home after a honeymoon trip.


     Sep 19 - A new concrete porch about 30 feet long has been built in front of the Bazaar school house by Wm. Monroe of the Falls.


     The second baby daughter was born go Dr. & Mrs A. E. Titus of this city.


     Mrs Barbara Selves died at the home of her son, Louis Selves of Saffordville.


     Sep 24 - At the Old Settlers second annual reunion, about 300 persons attended which was held at the Huntley grove near Wonsevu.


     Sep 26 - Lack of rain hampers fall plowing.


     The finest garage of Clyde Wilson and John Hanson, in Strong City has just been completed. The firm will be known as the Chase County Auto and Machine Company. The structure is 76 feet x 110 feet and cost around $22,000.


     Chase County High School enrollment has reached 204 and a few more are expected in a week or two.


     Beulah Mauderly of Clements is unable to attend school due go whooping cough.


     Sep 29 - Middle creek's annual fifth big fair closed, and it was estimated no less than 2,500 persons were present on Saturday.


     Wm. Kieferle has purchased the R. B. Harris residence, just south of R. Z. Blackburn's place, in the west part of this city.


     Oct 1 - Carl O'Danials, 0. M. Nevitt, and Guy Crook are all building new houses in the town of Saffordville.


     Oct 3 - Levi Chandler of Bazaar, has bought the Dick Hays home place a block west of the Exchange National Bank in Cottonwood Falls and E. R. Beedle of Bazaar, purchased the Dick Hays cottage in Cottonwood Falls.
