     Jan 2 1920 - The fourteenth Decennial Census of the U. S. is on.

     Jan 5 - County Representative, E. W. Jeffery, of Elmdale, left for Topeka to be present at the opening of the special session of legislature.

     Dee Hoel buys Exide Battery Station of L. A. Mason and Sons on the corner of Broadway and Friend street.

     Jan 7 - Josephine Ice of Cedar Point and Frank C. Veatch of Emporia are wed. Josephine has been in the nursing profession.

     John Stewart sells his property in the southwest part of this city to Floyd Gardner, of Elinor.

     Farmers Union Meetings to be held at the Miller schoolhouse and at Peyton creek.

     Jan 9 - Forty plates were laid for the annual banquet of the Cottonwood Falls Fire Co. boys held in the Methodist church basement. Fred Austin was voted Fire Chief and Wm. Kuhl Assistant Chief.

     Dudley Doolittle, newly appointed prohibition director for Kansas has secured office rooms at Strong City in the big Daley building on the east side of Cottonwood Avenue.

     Mrs Carrie Wood of Elmdale, wife of Stephen Wood, and one of the earliest and best known pioneers died at her home. Mrs Wood was in her 86th year.

     Mr. & Mrs Arthur Hull of Matfield Green are the parents of a baby girl.

     Jan 20 - Milton Pendergraft and Mabel Althouse are wed. Milt is one of the best farmers of his vicinity.

     Jan 14 - The Chase County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual meeting at the courthouse.

     Preston Hale, County Agent has resigned and a new man J. A. Hendricks has been chosen as Agent for Chase county.

     Don't forget Joe Schwilling's big sale, Wed. Jan. 21st. A large line of machinery, all new in the last two years.

     Jan 16 - The county jail in this city has not had an occupant for the past two months, according to Sheriff John Dunkin.

     Jan 19 - The subscription price of the Chase County Leader will increase to $2.50, a year.

     A Farmers Union is organized at Bazaar.

     There are quite a number of cases of mumps reported among the children of this city.

     The U. S. went "DRY" last Saturday, by a nation wide prohibition law that just went into effect.

     Jan 21 - Mrs Louisanna Naylor of Matfield Green has died. She was united in marriage at 16 to A. G. Naylor. She is the mother of fifteen children, ten of whom are still living.

     Dwight Underwood is taking the census in Matfield Township.

     Jan 23 - Katherine 0"Neil of Strong City and Clarence Albert Matti are married in the parlor of the Catholic Rectory.
