     1923 - 1924

     Dec 14 1923 - The merchants of this city has bought Cedars about eight feet high and have “planted” them in the holes in the sidewalk drilled for flag poles.

     Dr. Woodhull is home from the hospital at Topeka.

     Mrs Micheal Nash, wife of one of the best known farmers of Strong Township is dead, as the result of heart failure.

     Dec 25 - Rose Daugherty of Cottonwood Falls and George Capwell are wed.

     George Starkey, a Prairie Hill farmer buys the Schwilling school house for $302.

     Dec 28 - Miss Blanche Featherkile and Mr. Lester Bourland are married. They will live on the Benninghoven Brothers ranch when the new house is finished.

     Roy Heathman saws fifteen ranks of wood, or approximately four cords in just three and one-half hours with no help. Probably set a record that will stand for awhile.

     Jan 1 1924 - Phil Sheridan of Clements and Christine Baker of Cedar Point are married at the Friend’s parsonage at Homestead on Dec. 22nd.

     Jan 4 - Ford truck chassis $370 F.0.B. Detroit.

     Zero weather every day for over a week.

     Mr. & Mrs Si Morgan are the parents of a boy, named Albert Earl.

     Jan 8 - Skating parties are very popular just now. The ice has been good and the young folks are enjoying the cold weather.

     Jan 15 - Elk-Union moved into their new school building on Diamond Creek. The larger boys at the city high school are learing to play basketball now.

     Jan 22 - The Trail Cafe has changed hands again. Mr. & Mrs Moore of Saffordville are the new owners.

     Jan 29 - W. R. Blackburn of Bazaar sells his hardware business to Burgner-Bowman-Matthews.

     Mrs Daniel Klotz died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Louis Fink of Fox creek.

     Strong City will have a library.

     Feb 5 - The wedding of a very popular young couple of this county has taken place, that of Roy Park and Frankie Frey, both of Elmdale.

     Feb 8 - One of the biggest sheriff’s land sales in a long time when the Chas. Frew land consisting of 1,760 acres of grazing land in the south edge of this county was held.

     Feb 15 - Chase County’s Treasurer, L. L. Chandler will lay a new floor in the courthouse hall. The floor is badly needed, but the cost was quite excessive Mr. Chandler volunteered to do the work at no cost as his office was in a slack period.

     Matfield Green in the south part of this county will be the first town on the new line of the Santa Fe - ElDorado branch to incorporate and become a city of third class.
