     1924


     Feb 19 1924 - Bessie Thompson and Lawrence Rogler are wed.


     Strong City opens a new library. The library is located in the south section of the Chase Co. News building.


     Feb 22 - The business men and merchants organized a Chamber of Commerce in Cottonwood Falls.


     Feb 26 - City of Cottonwood Falls strikes good water at 48 feet on the B. B. Rufener farm west of town.


     Mar 11 - John Crawford has rented the store room adjoining his feed store on the south in the Masonic Hall building and will open up a creamery and produce business along with his feed and grain business.


     Mar 14 - Another “peachless” year, due to weather conditions.


     Mar 21 - Santa Fe completes two big water tanks at Bazaar. The tanks are from 60-65 feet high.


     Mar 25 - the girls at the Elmdale High School will receive track training.


     Matfield Green is to hold its first election. Bruce Largent is running for Mayor.


     Mar 28 - This city has begun the improvement and beautifying of its park.


     Apr 4 - Elmdale is to be lighted with natural gas. Street lights are now being installed. Elmdale will be the only town in Chase Co. using natural gas for lighting purposes.


     Apr 11 - A. W. Ryan buys the Strong City Bank Hotel.


     Apr 18 - Mrs John Wells of Middle creek was seriously burned when she built a fire in the heating stove.


     Wm. Studer, Jr. and Sarah Bruce are wed. They are now at home on the Studer farm on Prairie Hill.


     Apr 22 - Students and others are beautifying the grounds of the city school.


     Chase County Community high school wins State track meet. Saffordville was second and Elmdale third.


     May 2 - Plans for the Bazaar Community sale date is set. Court Crouch will do the selling.


     As the result of a raid on a house in the north part of town made by Sheriff Jacobs and his deputies, Tom Mercer and L. W. Heck, nine arrest were made of men and boys who were shooting craps.


     May 6 - Both the Chase Co. Community High School and the Elmdale Rural High School placed well in the eleventh annual Kansas music contest held at Emporia.


     May 9 - prisoners in the Chase County jail are put to work, mowing the court house lawn, washing windows and doing other work about the building.


     May 23 - G.A.R. ranks are thinning. Seven G.A.R. members are left in Chase Co.


     Jun 6 - Deaths; Harry R. Hudson and Miss Carrie Collett.


     Jun 10 - Hugh Campbell has purchased the Henderson drug business in Strong City.
