     1927


     Apr 20 1927 - The second flood along the Cottonwood river within the past week has passed with much feed crops washed away.


     Apr 27 - For the fourth successive year Chase County Community High School track men continued in their winning mood.


     May 4 - Chase ranks high in music at the State Music contest. Chase won a cup for the orchestra and received two honorable mentions, boys solo, low voice and boys glee club.


     May 11 - A story of Sam Wood was written about in “The Battles of Phanton Cities” and featured in the Saturday Evening Post.


     The old Elm Airdome is being dismantled by Henry Errett and Pearl Freeman.


     A new sidewalk leading from the street to the court house has just been completed by Chris Zimmerman.


     May 18 - The courthouse family held their annual picnic on the court house lawn.


     May 25 - Miss Bessie Mercer completed twelve years of school work with a perfect record as to attendance. Bessie just graduated from the Matfield Green High School.


     Jun 1 - Freddie Brickell, a former Cottonwood Falls boy, who was with the Pittsburg Pirates last season just returned for the 1927 season.


     Jun 15 - C. A. Sayre has sold his farm on Cedar Creek which includes Lake Tahoe, to his nephew Richard Sayre.


     Jun 22 - A six inch downpour brings highest flood of the year.


     James Rogler, died at his home at Matfield Green. Mr. Rogler was a very early settler. He leaves two daughters, Mrs Carl Beedle and Mrs Whit Speer.


     7-20 - Wm. Lyon Wood died at his home in this city. In boyhood, Mr. Wood’s home was east of this city on the ranch of his father, now the Gregory Ranch.


     Jul 27 - Meeting favors voting bonds for a new high school building for this city.


     Death of Mrs N. M. Patton in the southwest part of the county.


     Aug 17 - Mannoth beacon lights will shortly light a trail over the Flint Hills of this secion of the state for aviators between Wichita and Kansas City.


     Hannah W. Breese has been appointed as Executrix of the estate of Asa A. Breese.


     Aug 24 - Leroy Giger west of the city has purchased 240 acres of the Wood farm southwest of Elmdale.


     Aug 31 - The State Fire Marshal’s office orders all doors to swing outward and also requires all screens on windows to be hung on hinges in all school buildings.
