     1928

     Feb 8 1928 - The Chase County National Bank the second oldest business institution in Cottonwood Falls, failed to open it’s doors for business.

     Jim Bell will open a men’s clothing store soon. Mr. Bell has been in the clothing business for more than twenty years, working for the Gregory Brothers. He has secured a lease on the Capwell Studio on the west side of Broadway. The city will miss the Capwell Studio, which has been in business here more than 30 years.

     Twin daughters have been born to Mr. and Mrs Lee Byram of French Creek.

     Mar 7 - Roy K. Maybell, has resigned as undersheriff in order to give all his time to his work.

     Mar 14 - Chas. Selves and Hattie Shambron are wed.

     The Potter families are numerous on the rural mail route of Irving Myers. Irving says they now number five.

     A movement was started for the building of a rural high school for Strong township.

     Apr 11 - Six race horses are now stationed at the Fair grounds. They all will be trained here for the coming race season.

     Mrs Oscar Altemus of Peyton creek is presenting the Strong City Methodist church a large bell in memory of her mother, Mrs J. L. Thompson.

     Apr 18 - Contract made for an addition to the Chase County Community high school building.

     Strong Township to vote on a new rural high school building.

     Apr 25 - Members of Headquarters detachment of the second squadron of the 114th. Cavalry put on their first scouting drill of the spring on their mounts. At present there are 26 men in the detachment. New members recently added are: Carl Speer, Wilson Stout, Walter Smith, Henry and Floyd Watchous.

     Practically all of the eight month schools of Chase County have closed.

     May 2 - Mrs A. S. (Carolyn Rosalpha) Howard, daughter of Wm. C. and Jane Shaft has passed away at the age of 85. She was the mother of eight children.

     Bazaar is glad to welcome a new barber, Mr. Saunders.

     May 9 - For the first time in its history, Chase County will have women jurors. All four women live in Diamond Township, Mrs Chauncey Childs, Mrs F. 0. Pracht, Mrs A. C. Harris and Mrs J. P. Edmonds.

     As a red-letter day for the Chase County Fair to be held this fall, a pageant will be given showing the development of Chase County for the past seventy years.

     May 16 - Death of Stanley Drummond due to self-inflicted gas poisoning. He was 28 years of age.

     Strong City to have a new rural high school. The bond issue was set at $30,000.
