     1929 - 1930

     Oct 0 - 1929 - Harold L. Miller, of Elmdale, has bought a section of grazing land about 7 miles west of Elmdale. It has several fine springs of everlasting water. It adjoins the Jim Miller ranch.

     Oct 16 - The Strong City Methodist church is being re-decorated on the interior.

     Oct 23 - The graveling of streets in this city was started again. The county is doing much road improvements.

     A baby daughter was born to Mr. & Mrs Phil Sheridan of Homestead. There will be a box-supper at the Miller School house.

     Oct 30 - Mr. & Mrs B. M. Huston of Strong City celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary. They make their home with daughter Mr. H. E. Sampson. Mr. Huston is 92 and Mrs Huston 90.

     Nov 13 - The death of George Stubenhofer occurred at his home in Strong City. He has been a resident of Chase Co. for 53 years.

     Births: Sons to Mr. & Mrs Wilson J. Stout, and Mr. & Mrs Ralph Talkington, a daughter to Mr. & Mrs Ernest Meierhoff.

     John Hensley, of Cedar Point, is Chase County’s champion corn husker.

     Nov 20 - Charles Gregory has passed away. In the late 1880’s he entered into partnership with Mr. Holmes. The store was well known for men’s fitting firm of Holmes and Gregory. He married Elizabeth M. Cartter in 1890.

     Also Mrs Jas. (Rose) O’Reilly died at her home in Strong City. Two sons survive, Henry C. O’Reilly, Chase Co. Attorney, and James O’Reilly of Los Angeles.

     Nov 27 - Thirty-two new members for the Methodist church of Strong City was the results of three weeks of revival meetings.

     Dec 4 - The city put on its holiday decorations when three beautiful cedar trees were erected on Broadway at the intersections of Pearl, Friend, & Main Streets.

     Dec 18 - Judge T. G. Allen, who for many years has been the honored Probate Judge of Chase Co. was honored at the recent meeting of the official council in Topeka. Mr. Allen has lived among us since he was a boy.

     Joe Costello died at his home in Strong City following a stroke of paralysis.

     Bloodhounds brought in from Hutchinson fail on the Smith Store robbery.

     Dec 25 - The large two-story farm house of John Stewart on Middle creek was completely destroyed by fire. He will rebuild.

     Mrs Benjamin Badger, the mother of John and Granville Badger, of Elk has died at her home. Mrs Badger was one of the wonderful pioneer women, raising five children after the death of her husband at an early age.

     Jan 1 1930 - The Cedar Creek bridge is nearing completion.

     Jan 8 - Gregory Brothers clothing store to be closed as it is to much for W. M. Gregory since the death of his brother Charles last fall.
