     Apr 22 1931 - The big tri-motored Fokker airplane which was the result of the death of Rockne and 7 others was sold for junk.

     Approximately five thousand old chattel mortages will be destroyed by Ida Schneider, register of deeds.

     Excavating for the new consolidated school building district No.55 southeast of Matfield Green is being built by Ira Lister of Emponia has started. The site of the building is on the McCallum land which has been purchased. The district was named “Booster District”.

     May 6 - The girls quartet from the Chase County Community High School placed fourth in the music contest at Emporia.

     Ad — Regular $1.00 wash shirts, 75 cents at Jim Bell’s.

     Eva Burton of Bazaar will teach Norton school the coming year.

     Fred Romigh, who graduated from the Kansas City Veterinary School will again take up his practice. He can be reached at his home west of this city.

     May 13 - Margaret Kieferle tied for first place in English in the recent Eighth Grade Scholarship contest. Margaret will receive a gold medal and a certificate of award from the Teachers College.

     May 20 - The merchants of Cottonwood Falls will close their stores at one o’clock on Decoration Day. They will re-open at four o’clock.

     The Woodring Meat Market has installed a new Frigidaire.

     May 27 - First Lieut. Irving Myers of Headquarters Company First Battalion of the 137th. Infantry of this place has returned from Fort Benning, Georgia for infantry training the past fourteen weeks.

     Jun 3 - Each Memorial Day finds the line of Civil War Veterans thinning.

     It will be a rip-roaring old time Fourth of July Celebration for Cottonwood Falls this year. The celebration will be under the management of the Legion men of the Claude Newlee Post of this city.

     James J. Yeager and Miss Margaret McKinney of Great Bend are wed.

     The city sprinkler was put in use on Broadway for the first time this summer due to the dry weather. The dust needed to be settled.

     Jun 10 - Cyclone hits the Clover Cliff Ranch and damages more than a dozen buildings.

     Kansas increases the bounty on coyotes and jack rabbits.

     The cornice of the courthouse roof is being repaired.

     After a residence of 77 years in Kansas, P. J. Norton is retiring. Mr. Norton will be moving to Wichita and live at the Kansas Masonic Home.

     Strong City votes down water system improvements.

     Miss Lillian Harbison and Mr. Athol Sayre are wed.

     Jul 1 - Mann Brothers may be heirs in a $300,000 Estate.
