     1931 - 1932

     Dec 9 1931 - County road men have been busy putting up snow “fences” on the county highways. This year there is about 70,000 feet of these fences.

     Dec 16 - Everett Wilson, prominent farmer and stockman died at his farm home on Peyton creek.

     Wet weather holds up corn gathering by farmers in this county.

     Dec 23 - Matfield Green Bank discontinues business after twenty-eight years of service.

     Harvey Giger died suddenly at his home north of Elmdale. Mrs Giger’s death occurred ten years ago. Four living children survive, 3 sons and one daughter.

     Dec 30 - John I. McClellan has been named bank receiver of the Matfield State Bank which closed its doors.

     Jan 6 1932 - S. R. Stauffer, of Hymer, just completed a new water system on his ranch which will enable him to have plenty of water for his home and livestock. James A. Graham, of this city, built the reservoir.

     Jan 13 - Snow fences have not been tried out yet.

     Mrs Sarah Glanville has passed away.

     Jan 20 - J. A. Holmes is Elmdale’s new mayor. Chas. Jacobs former county sheriff was appointed as police judge.

     Leslie Galentine of Bazaar dies saving his two year old daughter, Alice from a fire.

     Jan 27 - W. C. Austin announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Printer.

     Wm. Becker dies suddenly at his home on Prairie Hill. His death was due to heart trouble. He came to Kansas 50 years ago and all 50 have been spent in the farming and livestock business.

     AD - J. E. Snedegar Hardware & Groceries of Matfield Green; Navy beans, 5 lbs. 25 Cents; Rice, 8 lbs. 25 cents; sugar, 10 lbs. 53 cents; and Lard, pure, 1 lb. 10 cents.

     Coyotes are learning how to avoid hunters, according to the local coyote round-up men.

     Feb 3 - Bazaar neighbors farmed a wood-sawing bee.

     Miss Bertha Hawkins and Mr. Geo. Dawson, Jr. are wed. Both the bride and groom were raised in the Clements vicinity, where they attended school.

     Feb 17 - W. Y. Morgan has died according to the information received from his sister, Mrs Anna Morgan Coe. His parents were Mr. & Mrs W. A. Morgan who founded the Chase County Leader.

     Feb 24 - Geo. McKee died at his home in Matfield Green. He had lived in the Matfield vicinity for the past 54 years.

     A quiet home wedding took place when Miss Elizabeth Forney and Mr. George Hallam were married, at the home of the brides parents, Mr. & Mrs E. D. Forney of this City.
